@T-Mom: Ahhh ok I see what you're saying. Sorry! I guess mine wasn't as bad as some, but it did start to have a nasty taste/smell if it was frozen. I would do a small ratio of frozen milk to formula (1 oz frozen to 3 oz formula) and she would take it. But if I did any more, she wouldn't take it at all.

@BabyBoecksMom: you're lucky to be able to give your LO 3 mo old milk! but for people with a high lipase problem, month old milk may have already gotten to the point where baby would not like the taste. it really depends on the person. Month old for me was ok, but any longer than that and it started to have the nasty smell.

@London Mama: Month-old frozen milk should be fine to use. Actually, I'm using 3 month old frozen milk right now. I just have to mix it with formula or fresh milk.

@T-Mom: i didn't know that, the milk is over a month old so maybe that's the issue. I'll try it with some fresher milk and see what happens. Thanks for the tip!

@London Mama: Is the frozen milk that you've give your LO kind of old? You could do a test and freeze milk and try it in one or 2 days to see if it makes a difference. Freezing is supposed to slow down the milk breakdown process, but it doesn't halt it completely. So chances are that your older milk may have turned smelly, but your newer frozen milk may be acceptable to your LO.

I have the same problem, DS won't drink my frozen milk. When I can't pump fresh and refrigerate I am thinking of giving the odd bottle of formula. Although I've never given him formula so perhaps he'll refuse that too, you never know with babies!

Scalding it will work for most Moms, but some babies still won't drink it. It won't harm your baby if they don't mind, but most babies do. I'm sorry that this is happening to you. You may have to start only serving the fresh stuff.

I had it (defrosted milk tasted a little plasticy) but my son didn't seem to mind.

Check out Kelly mom for tips -- I believe you can scald it before you freeze it. Also agree with others to try mixing frozen w/ fresh. And if you aren't opposed to it, maybe mix frozen with formula....

@FutureMrsMcK: I think it loses some nutrients if it's scalded but supposedly it's still nutritionally beneficial. You're supposed to scald right after expressing, and then you can refrigerate or freeze. I read about it at the link below, about halfway down the page :)

Does the milk lose it's nutrients if it's scalded? Do you scald before freezing? I've noticed some of my thawed milk smells and tastes soapy.

I had this issue and never was able to keep milk in the fridge more than 24 hr before it "turned". It kept in the freezer but I never kept more than a months worth of milk since the frozen milk would eventually go bad as well. I would recommend defrosting a few bags from different dates to see at what point it is going bad. You could also scald but it was way too much trouble for me.

Have you tried mixing the thawed milk with refrigerated milk?

I have excess lipase as well but my LO will take defrosted milk, even though it smells incredibly soapy to me!

Has anyone dealt with this? Any tips? I have over 100 ounces frozen and just started working. Now my son is refusing to drink my frozen milk. He has no problem with fresh or refrigerated milk ;-/
