@Mamaof2: I don't know why there was a rush but they still haven't come today to do the job after getting angsty with DH that they would still be doing the job today even though it's so much harder not to use our backyard so I wouldn't be surprised if they've given up.

@coopsmama: UGH!! Yeah that might give potential onwers a pause when they look in your backyard and see a mess of downed trees....Fingers crossed they hold off on cutting down their trees till the spring!! What's the rush anyway if they are healthy?

@MrsStar: thanks for your good thoughts! :)

@Adira: We are seriously hoping they just drop the whole taking down the trees idea - at least for awhile! These are major trees and it will be almost impossible to drop them without the use of our backyard and since their reason isn't for safety concerns (the trees are in good health and trimmed back) it seems almost silly to bother it.

@Mamaof2: Not just ruin the lawn but get this -- no one had been contracted to do clean up and removal! DH dug deeper and talked to the tree guy and apparently he would only cut them down. The park manager (who is older and overweight) said he would be doing the clean up himself but that is a major job! Also, they assured us that taking down the fence would be easy and that they would pay if there were damaged but neither of them are professionals with fences. Such a risky prospect. I can't believe they thought it would be remotely okay and that they didn't contact us well in advance.

OMG!! I would tell them there is zero access to your property until the new owners take over and then they can ask them!

Those trucks and stuff would ruin your lawn

Booo!! I'm sure the neighbors will just miss you and are sad you are leaving and overreacted!

But man, what a pain about the park removing those trees JUST as you listed!! Hopefully it doesn't impact your ability to sell at all!

I'm sorry it hasn't been a good experience so far. And really weird about the trees - I'm glad you're holding your ground on that. I have my fingers crossed it won't take long for it to sell so you don't have to deal with the madness for much longer

Ouch! Honestly, someone who responds to a positive move for you by telling you it's the dumbest thing you could do doesn't sound like a nice and friendly neighbor!

So we listed our house today, as I'm sure many of you know from my previous posts on the topic. (Thank you for bearing with me. )

We told our neighbors across the street last night about our plans and their response was really negative. They are an older couple - late 50's, early 60s. The wife said, "can I be honest? I think that is the dumbest thing you could do." She was really insistent that our house and neighborhood are so friendly and perfect that we should just stay at our current home. Her husband, on the other hand, was more understanding of our reasons for wanting to sell but was really sad/hurt almost. They've been our closest neighbors since we moved in. I had taken them a meal last night (the wife has been recovering from surgery) and the husband brought the dishes back today and I could tell he was still really sad by the whole situation and brought up the lock box on our door. Their response is really making me not want to leave. :(

Well, the neighbors behind our house (and fence) are actually a small trailer park. It's been there forever and the people there are low income but have a lot of pride for their park so it's well-kept, etc. The park manager came over this morning and asked if they could access our back yard to remove some trees that are right on the property line. Something about the situation was unsettling to me and I called DH. Turns out, half of the trees they plan to remove are on OUR property but our fence is on the other side of them. They were wanting to remove OUR trees along with theirs, claiming that it would look odd to have a line up of our tall, beautiful maples, since they are pulling out the other trees.

They also wanted to take our nice white vinyl fence down, drop all of the trees into our back yard, and back a flat bed into our yard to take the trees away. Keep in mind we listed our house TODAY and the sign just went up.

Well, DH came home and talked to them and told them that 1) they couldn't down the trees into our yard and 2) our trees absolutely had to stay and the park manager was less than understanding and even said that he thought it would look so tacky with only 2 large maples instead of the rest that a potential buyer would like the property without the trees. Well, we're holding our ground obviously.

But still - WHAT are the odds? Those trees have been up for years and they are so big that they provide additional (much-needed) privacy from the trailer park for our yard and they are taking their trees down THIS week. The week the house starts showing! It will honestly look very barren without some of the trees they plan to remove.

Such bad luck. I know it's a bit of an overreaction but coupled with our neighbor's response I'm already feeling defeated in this house selling process and almost want to pull the plug already. We won't, but seriously. What. are. the. odds?!
