@duckduckkristen: Gymboree is really fun. We did it for a month on a deal. You can try two free classes and then choose one. Open gym is the best. For both of you. Can't beat all the mats and equipment to play. Much more fun than toys.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I just looked on their website and ti does say there's a free intro class? Maybe it's new.
ETA: oops not all locations; that's lame!

Thanks for this post! M will be 4months soon so I probably should look into something like this maybe on the weekends! She does go to daycare so she already has that interaction. But I would love to meet other moms!

Thanks everybody! I think we are going to do a 5 week mom and me yoga class, then once that is over we'll try out a free first time class at Gymboree and see how that goes!

@Mrs. Yoyo: our library has baby story/music time once a month, so I'll check that out too!

You're totally right... At that age, it's good for mom and baby... But mostly mom, IMO! I was in the same position as you with my firstborn, with not a lot of mom friends at the time... So I did enroll DD in a gym/music class at 4 months. It was called Developmental Movement. It was a lot of singing, dancing, stories, scarves, tummy time and bubbles.

We started LO in Gymboree when she was 5 months. She loved it. She was so interested in looking at the other babies and would stare and laugh at the teacher whenever she sang. We did activities that worked with their sense of hearing, touch, and sight. We did tummy time play where you put the babies on their tummies over a mirror, bubble time, where the teacher blows bubbles around the babies. It was also nice because we could nurse and diaper change any time during class since they were still little babies.

Now that LO is 7 months old, she's graduated to the next class, which works on strenghening muscles for crawling, sitting, and balance. The classes are nice because it also allowed me to meet other mommies.

So I took LO to the Little Gym (next class up though) a couple months ago. I think it was the 10-19 mos. class. Honestly, since he wasn't walking yet, there wasn't much he could do but crawl around like a maniac. And they were trying to get them to sing songs and bang instruments when really all the kids wanted to do was explore. So I decided to hold off for now -- just thought it was a little pricey right now, especially since ours doesn't have any sort of open gym.

They should offer a free class. Go and see what you think. But also check out whether your library has a baby bookworm class or whether there's Kindermusik or something and compare. Our library program is absolutely free, and they still get to run around and sing songs and stuff. And that includes young babies, too.

We take DS to gymboree. We gave been takin him for a few weeks and it's kinda hit and miss if he'll pay attention. But we like that he's around older babies and we get to work on his developmental milestones.

i think that's a little young for gym class because they are not mobile yet. the gym classes around here are super expensive, so i didn't enroll charlie until he was around 9 months old and crawling/cruising. we enrolled both charlie and olive in a music class when they were 6 months. i think that's a great class to start with for babies!

LO will be 4 months old in a few weeks which means he'll be old enough to start classes at the Little Gym nearby. Since I'm a SAHM and don't have any other friends with kids, I was thinking this would be good for both of us!

Has anyone taken their 4 or 5 month old to these classes? How was it? What kind of stuff do they do with babies that young?
