@Pumuckl: She would growl at you (in a cute way)!

@shopaholic: Yeah, I think you're probably right there, abour wanting to keep her as a tiny baby. They went mad when I first put her in shoes - "How ridiculous!" "She can't even walk!" "She's just a baby"

@StbHisMrs: Oh Lordy, the drama when I put a bow on her head!! DH agrees with them, too - he hates bows (sob sob)

I think their comments would bug me a little bit.

My Husband wanted a boy but has 4 girls instead, so he *kind of* would get stinky when I'd dress her up all girly in dresses, but he's gotten over it now. She loves to get dirty and help Daddy with muddy stuff, she is his little tomboy in a princess dress. What I mean is they can't really persuade her because she's going to like what she's going to like! And I would most likely dress her girly and put bows in her hair just to spite them ;) Our babies have the same hair

I do think their comments are a bit extreme! But the hair and "she's a baby" comments I think are because they want to keep her a little baby for as long as possible? My MIL would keep trying to shove my nephew into his baby overalls (and any overalls she could find), long after he'd outgrow them, because she loved how cute and "babyish" he looked in them. Like she didn't want him to look like a toddler boy.

My SIL tried to avoid princess stuff with my niece, but it was pretty much impossible because of the peer pressure of day care, lol. My niece is 4 now, so my SIL just embraces whatever my niece finds an interest in.

@Cherrybee: Ahhh her hair is precious! I would probably do both leave it crazy like this somedays and on days where she needs to be a little more dressed up (in the nursery perhaps) blow dry it.

ETA: I mean this in the least creepy way possible but I want to tousle her hair.

@bunnylove08: Her hair is really fine, just like mine, and any "product" just makes it greasy. Poor thing. She has a lifetime of this to come!!

@Mamaof2: I have no doubt that whatever she chooses to like will be the opposite of whatever we want her to like anyway!! I got into religion in my teens to rebel against my party animal mother!!! sigh.

I love her hair. can you use a hair balm on her? No judgement here. My DD choose to wear pink, she calls the color baby because her baby doll wears pink. She also wears Thomas train, and teenage mutant ninja turtles shirt

So cute!

We often try our best to avoid a lot of pink stuff and princess things. But she is a girl and wearing a dress isn't going to give her a complex. As long as you let her get dirty and play and be herself she will be fine!

As far as the hair part goes, I think as long as she doesn't mind it, go for it! Just because she's a baby doesn't mean she can't do her hair. I mean, its got to happen at some point right?

I say its your kid and you do whatever you want to do

You can inundate her with pink but as she gets older she will like what she likes - it may be pink and it might be orange!

The Princess thread got me thinking.....

My inlaws have got this bee in their bonnet about not dressing DD up in pretty clothes. I get it, she's a baby and it's not a fashion show but I feel like they deliberately swing the other way just to make a point.

If I drop her off in a pretty dress or top they say "She's only going to get dirty, you know" and I think

1) Umm, yeah I know

and

2) You say that as if you're going to deliberately get her dirty!

They are forever criticising DH's cousin for dressing her little girl up in pretty outfits and for constantly wiping her face or changing her clothes if she gets a bit of dirt on her. They refer to DH's cousin as "one of 'those' parents" and frequently ask me "oh, you're not turning into one of 'those' parents are you?". The cousin is a bit much, I admit, but it's still a bit judgey!

They're obsessed with pink - specifically the need for none of DD's things - bedsheets, toys etc - to be pink. If they buy her clothes, it's always super practical T-shirts or clothes from the boys section (which I don't mind - I gave her a boy's name after all!). If they saw anything Disney Princess related they would freak out!!!

Anyway, the new issue is blowdrying her hair. DD's hair stuck up on end for quite a while. It's got to the point now where only the crown sticks up - so I've started blow drying it flat with cool air. DD loves it, she thinks it's really funny, but my inlaws keep complaining about it. Apparently, they LIKE her hair standing on end. What?? Why would you *like* that?? Their answer - because she's a baby.

What do you think? Do you deliberately go the other way (from little princess)? Can you go too far the other way? Or am I one of "those" parents, hahahaha?!

ps - my inlaws are great. This is a light hearted thread - I know they love her to pieces and me as well. :silly:

Oh and here is E pre blow dry! Silly, huh?!
