There's a lot of diversity, lots of stuff to do with kids like museums and such. There are some really beautiful sights and great cultural things like plays, music, and great food. The weather is kind of annoying. It can be warm some days but a lot of times it's windy or foggy, even in the summer. Parking is a joke. You can circle the block for 20-30 min or more looking for a spot. You definitly want a house with a designated garage. Housing is insanely expensive but if you live in NYC, you probably expect that. Overall it's a great city though.

My sister lives in the city and has 2 children and has been there for almost 20 years. They love it. The climate is nice and mild. Have you visited?

I haven't lived in the city but I have some coworkers that do as well as my extended family. This site has some older info but might be an interesting read for you:

My husband might have a job opportunity in San Francisco and we're going to have to make a very quick decision about whether or not we want to move. We would be living in the city. If you live there now or have lived there, what did you like the most and what did you like the least about living there, especially in regards to raising kids? We currently live in NYC and love it so it's a tough choice.
