@honeybear: Yay! I'm hoping the two textures work together :)

@looch: We want to put blinds of some sort behind so we can darken the room more. Add that to the "to do" list... The paint looks yellower in the photo than in real life for some reason...

@T.H.O.U.: I think that's the plan... My wallet needs a bit of a break ;)

@LindsayInNY: I like the idea with a fabric colored chair later on. I think the red leather and the brown leather is too similar (but does match). I think adding the texture of a fabric chair would be great.

@LindsayInNY: I think burgundy/brown leathers fall on the more masculine side, though not necessarily traditional. Nothing wrong with either!! I didn't mean to say i didn't like your rug, just looking for ways to lighten up the room. :)

ETA: Just saw your comments. I like the walls and window treatments!

I say if you like the couch, go for it!

@LindsayInNY: have you seen my house?! Lol

Ok, I googled some red leather rooms to be more objective. Go with the burgundy sofa.

@looch: yeah, if I could do it all over I would have at least picked a color or pattern for the accent chairs in the living room.

@LindsayInNY: thanks for that photo, I like the window treatments....we have a similar issue with there being something under the window and as much as I want drapes, it might not be possible.

You've given me some inspiration!

I like it! I think the two differently colored leathers might be a little odd until you replace the chair, but I think that sofa would look great with a fabric-upholstered chair next to it. (Says the woman who has a fabric-covered couch and a leather armchair in her living room! ;) )

Just be sure you really love the color and style of your sofa. That's one piece that is hard to change out. I'd rather live with a mismatched room for a while and have a sofa I loved than a coherent room and a sofa I was indifferent about.

@Freckles: Rug is brand new. Like just got it this summer and cost twice as much as the couch. So that's not an option, LOL! Coffee table and end table are also brand new (just delivered last week!). I'm fine with traditional - that's how DH and I are. I thought the dark brown screamed more classic/traditional though? (PS - Love Houzz.com!)

What color do you have on the walls?

I purposely didn't get a brown or cream sofa, because I feel like it's all you ever see, so my vote is for oxblood. It's just so classic and feels right in leather!

If you go for the couch, i would want to change up the rug to something more creamy to lighten up the room. (http://www.westelm.com/products/souk-rug-b865/)

Or when you get a new chair, i'd go for a cream in a different fabric.

http://www.houzz.com/photos/334287/Kirkland-Tanditional-traditional-living-room-seattle

The burgundy couch (@MsLipGloss: the word oxblood always makes my toes curl!) says "masculine" and "traditional" so go for it if that's the look/style you're going for.

http://www.houzz.com/photos/83986/Gloucester-Road-Apartment-modern-living-room-london

Are the end tables what you have now? Maybe some gold/glass tables would add some feminine touches.

@LindsayInNY: my favorite from the link is the middle, although we have C+B Lowes bar stools and chairs in cream and they look awesome.

I brightened my phone screen and can see the colors you originally posted more clearly and the burgundy isn't so bad, but still not my fav. I think you can tie in the red by using accent pillows and other accessories.

Not sure about the dining room rug yet since it's sitting in my office still in the packaging (was just delivered, LOL).
An alternative leather couch color would br cognac or honey brown is good color with red.

I like the oxblood-ish couch . . . and it sounds like you have good cross-pollination of red throughout your rooms . . . And a nice throw (with some red in it) over the chair may help to tie it in a little better until you get your new chairs!

@littlek: Ooh, good call - that too. I don't want the room to look like a cigar lounge. We had MIL make some throw pillows out of curtains and they look awesome with this leather. They're a dark red, brown, gold sorta stripe pattern.

@LindsayInNY: I think too dark of leather looks man caveish. We have dark leather in DH's man cave and it works there but I like the wine colored leather for a living room. I think you can definitely add a splash of color with pillows, draperies or a fun armchair.

@littlek: I think the two different leathers will look a bit better than having two mismatched dark brown leathers? I just think dark brown will make the room overly traditional and too neutral (the walls are a creamish tan color plus hardwood floors). We need some color somehow! (PS - You may have sold me by describing it as wine too! We love our wine!!)

@MrsKoala: Problem with getting the couch in the same color is that it won't be the same color. So it'll look close/similar but not quite...

@looch: We plan on getting rid of the current chair at some point and likely replacing it with a complementary patterned fabric chair instead of leather. The design lady at the store suggested avoiding the same color leather as the chair because it'll look like we're trying to match and failing. So she also recommended a different color to coordinate together.

I'd keep the color of the chair instead and get the couch in that color... I'm not sure how well the burgundy couch goes with the other items (not that it couldn't work). But that couch looks super comfy.

Haha, that's how I do my mood boards too! All in Paint!

My honest opinion is that it looks like you had pieces from different collections and just stuck them together. There's no cohesion in the pieces other than the fact they're both leather. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, I have a gray linen couch and a plaid wool chair in my living room.

eta; if you're going to get the couch, get the chair, lest they discontinue it or make it in a diff. leather when you are ready to buy.
