@looch: Ohhhh I like the idea of a console stand! And good call on the see through coffee table.

@T.H.O.U.: where the photo is being taken from is a large TV console. We have a ton of stuff in that thing!

@Littlebit: ALso, what is on the other side of the room? A Tv? What kind of TV stand? Our TV stand has a TON of storage.

A few possibilities:
1. Scoot the couch forward from the wall and put a thin console table behind it (the wall where you have the speakers). You can put a few lamps behind there.
2. Replace the coffee table with something more "see through." i had thought you might want a storage type solution there, but it's going to look very bulky, because your couch goes all the way to the floor. I would do something simple, with baskets below, rather than a block type solution for the coffee table.
3. Another solution is to put one of those "C" tables on the couch, they can be moved around so you can put a drink on it.

@T.H.O.U.: I'll show that to my husband! I like it but he's not a fan of the distressed look usually. Maybe though!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Thank you! Great suggestions! We do still need a lamp - we don't like to use the overhead lights at night. We are hoping to get a floor lamp and eliminate the table lamp and plant. So it would just have the end table and floor lamp.

We've tried going without anything over there and it just seems too empty. We'd like to get a new rug and replace a few pillows (especially the ones on the recliner - way too dark). But yes, our goal is definitely to lighten up that corner!

Your room looks pretty nice as is. Do you need the lamp light in that corner? The table plus lamp plus plant plus frames makes that corner very dark. But, if you need a light in that area how about a floor reading lamp that hover low over the sofa arm? I would get rid of the end table altogether and not replace it. Your coffee table looks big enough that anyone sitting in the last cushion could put their glass or mug on the coffee table. I'd leave corner empty and slide your couch some so it doesn't jut up next to the kitchen quite as much.

Next I'd focus on a larger rug with color or pattern then a coffee table with the storage you want. We have use an ottoma, which is great to tuck boardgames and blankets inside. I'm not a fan of vertical blinds, either, but your blue curtains make them look nice.

@T.H.O.U.: I've thought about doing that (did that in the past with the nursery) but I really don't have the time for that right now! Plus I would still not know what color to do? Grey? Teal? White?

@Littlebit: I liked that piece too but it is small. What about a used furniture place that you could get something and paint it?

We found this end table at Target and we both loved it (rare) but when we went to look at it it was kind of cheap looking. We don't want to spend a fortune but we also don't want cheap looking stuff that will fall apart soon.

When we purchased our home we had a lot of people give us odds and ends furniture. While we are grateful for the help, the items are not our style and don't match at all. We have slowly been replacing items over the years.

Below is a picture of our living room. We are looking to redo that corner on the left. We are looking for an end table, and floor lamp (to replace that awful fake plant), and a coffee table.

Anyone have any suggestions? We aren't opposed to the following colors: grey, white, cream, turquoise/teal. Not sure if white/cream would blend in too much with the wall? And not sure if the grey would look too blah next to the couch. Ugh.

We're hoping to get some items with storage (either with shelf's, drawers, or doors). Our home is pretty small and we could definitely be utilizing that space better. Coffee table and end tables don't have to match as long as they compliment eachother. Our style is kind of antique, vintage-y, country.

The awful blinds are next :P

So what would you do for those spaces if you were us?
