We have a toy box that was a gift, and we store wicker basekts on top of it with additional toys. The toy situation is getting a little out of hand in our house :)

Do you have Ikea? The Stuva system comes in white.
There's a bunch of other pieces including ones without knobs.

We actually use our play kitchen as a toy box right now. End of the day I pile all of her junk into it and we just have the one cute (Kidcraft espresso) kitchen in the corner of our living space.

@Modern Daisy: We have a large 4x4 Expedit bookshelf in our main living area and her books, puzzles, etc live on the bottom shelves. We also store some of her bulkier toys like her Parum Drum, etc there, Montessori style, with one toy on each shelf so she can get to them.

@Modern Daisy: this is exactly what we did. We have a low (maybe hip height) long bookshelf with different compartments, and LO's toys are in some of them in baskets, so you can't see the toys and it looks neat. In the other compartments are books that I don't mind him pulling out.

Another thing I did was clear off the bottom shelves of our Ikea bookshelves in the living room and now all of future LO's books are on those shelves. There is room to buy square baskets to put there too, so if we really want to hide things we can put stuff there as well.

This won't help you since I'm sure you don't have Homegoods in the UK, but I bought us a bunch of large natural/wicker baskets and put two in the living room and one in future LO's room - just to hold toys. They are almost empty now since LO isn't here yet and we've only received a few toys as gifts, but they can really hold a lot and cleanup will be easy since you can just throw everything in. They don't have lids, but they're big baskets and they are also stylish so that doesnt' bother me. They were only about $40 each!

Our living room is laminate so we have a play mat area that houses her toys. We keep half her toys in totes in the closet then the other half are split between family room and living room. When we clean they are all neatly piled in one area. So we don't mind it. We just use a small clear tote in the living room. In the family room we have one of those plastic cubby thingies that someone handed down to us.

We have used storage ottomans with great success as both a replacement for the coffee table and toy stashing. Then we would keep books out in a more accessible basket of some kind.

Okay, so C's toys are starting to get a little out of hand. As she's getting older, there are more and more pieces and I'd like to be able to sort them out better. Currently, they live in a big wicker laundry basket.

Help me find something! I want:
-Closed but easily accessible. I want to be able to hide her stuff away so it doesn't look like a toddler explosion in my living room.
-Dark wood, black, white, or red.
-Affordable. Not more than about $150.
-In the UK, or can be shipped to an APO.

How do you guys store yours?
