One thing my friend said she would do from now on (with her allergic child) is to put some on her kids skin to see if it reacts before having her digest it.

We actually gave DD peanut butter yesterday. We don't have a family allergy to it so we thought we would try it. She didn't have a reaction, so we'll gradually start letting her try it more often.

From the research I have done on food allergies and intollerances, there is really no consistent answer. The only thing most say is that if there is a family allergy (i.e. dad or mom had an issue) you should talk to your doctor.

My son has a food intollerance and we held off on nuts and peanut butter because of it. I find if he's reacting he reacts to everything. I believe this is why my sister's daughter was allergic to peanuts for a year (yes just a year).

My son's best friend has a peanut allergy and at this point, we are peanut free. There are so many other alternatives such as sunbutter which I love and has more calories.

@Mrs. Pen: There's been alot of conflicting recommendations on whether early introductions or delaying helps or increases allergy risk. =/

I found this post helpful:

As long as she had no reaction I think you are good to go :)

eta: this is only based on my personal experience, I started feeding peanut butter to my lo a little before she was one since no one in our family has had allergies.

Hmmm not sure... My son has had exposure to nuts - but the way I heard it works is that the earlier you expose them, the more likely they CAN have a reaction. So say if you started giving her PB now, there is a potential for an increased risk of an allergy down the road. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - this is just what I heard!

Recommendation has changed to not needing to delay after 6 months so long there isn't a family history of allergy.

We've only held off b/c P had a nut & I think a peanut intolerance (bf'ing). I may try reintroducing peanut butter here soon & if she does okay we'll add it to her diet. =)

We went over to my friend's house yesterday and my LO found and ate part of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that another LO dropped during mealtime. Thankfully, she didn't have a reaction so DH thinks it should be ok to feed her peanut butter now.

She is 1. Do you think it is too early?
