I think it's pretty normal for kids to develop mild tics that go away on their own. It could be something like that?

@iluvboba637: To be honest. I don't think my LO knew he was doing it. I would ask him about it and he would blink a few more times and then look straight at me kind of saying he doesn't understand what I'm asking or saying that he is not.

So it's possible he doesn't know he's doing it and that he picked up from watching someone else do it or from some sort of media.

Edit : He was blinking really rapidly but he was also blinking really hard sometimes too and lot in a row.

@Raindrop: thanks for sharing. My mom was saying maybe he saw someone winking or something and picked it up - but I noticed him doing it right away after waking from his nap..are they that aware of what they are doing already right from waking up? Sigh...these little ones cause us so much worry.

This happened to my DS around the same age... but I think you probably don't have the same issue with me.

What I figured out was around this time my mother took a month long trip to Asia to visit family. We ended up asking my mother in law to help care for LO while my mother was gone (since LO was grandma-cared).

My mother in law is Filipino and they have this thing called beautiful eyes they do to all kids. She was totally teaching him that and he would rapidly blink a lot while she was here and after. I didn't know she was teach him that till I talked to her about it. So funny. He stopped blinking so much a few months after she left because we don't do that and didn't encourage it.

After I figured that out I was so relieved.

DS is 2.75 y/o and the past few days he's been blinking weird...like a squinting blinking...blinking harder and a bit longer than the normal blinking.

I asked him if his eyes hurt or itch and he said no.

Tell me this is just one of those weird phases kids go through and it's nothing physically wrong w his eyes or vision.
