@mrbee: @Andrea: yup! I usually do ask them to all clean up before dinner time. It's usually a little harder at the end of the day because BIL announces it's time to leave like 5 minutes before.

Yesterday I asked the girls to clean up and came down to the younger niece literally throwing toys around the family room. It was messier than before! I got pretty frustrated so DH came down and took over. And no, BIL did not think it necessary to come down.

I usually do but last night E was in her cousins playroom with all the cousins and a big mess was made and we didn't clean up. None of us felt well...

I do ask Lo to help clean up at friends houses, but almost always they day not to worry about it. I don't let ppl help clean up when they come to my house bc I can do it faster, and unless Lo is sleeping it will just get messy again.

Yes- we always ask her to help clean up or just do it for her. I would never go to someone's house and have LO make a mess and not clean it up!

For sure! We always help pick up before we leave. If your BIL doesn't say anything, I would. I'd aim the comment at the general group of kids "Hey, our play date is almost over, let's all do some clean up, ok?"

I ask her to help us clean up at other people's homes, just like I do at my own home.

I definitely ask and expect my kids to clean up when we are at other people's homes. However, I don't always ask visitors at our home to clean up.

Can you ask the girls to clean up before leaving? I would definitely do that if you host them regularly!

Oh yes, D always picks up. Even if they say he doesn't have to, he does as well as he can.

When you go to someone else house, whether for a play date or the holidays, and LO makes a mess do you tell them to clean up?

Whenever BIL brings his girls over he never tells them to clean up. If I don't say something like "OK, girls! It's time to clean up!" he will leave with them and leave behind their mess. And they tear the house up! It's so frustrating to me!

When my family or mom friends come over with their kids they always tell their kids to clean up before leaving. I think it annoys me more because BIL is a clean freak but since it's not his house he doesn't care.
