The soft part actually includes the no-spill valve. They are pretty easy to put together and even with DD chewing on it, the outer straw looks like new. I just handed it to LO and eventually she worked it out on her own. As for the Zo-Li cup (or any other baby straw cup that I've seen), they are all requiring some sort of bite-down-then-suck ability - some easier than others.
