My doctor never cautioned me not to eat it and I did eat it. We don't have any food allergies in our family though.

I asked my OB about this after that hubbub over the Princess of Wales was seen denying peanuts. I was just wondering. She said they have no scientific proof of peanut allergies being caused by eating it while pregnant.

That was before we found out my husband was allergic to them, though. I'll be asking on my next visit if I should cut them out because of that. It would be a shame because I eat a pb sandwich every day for the iron and protein.

I also have a friend who stayed away from peanuts so I asked, and the doctor said not to worry about it if allergies don't run in the family.

Good thing because I loved peanut butter milkshake when I was pregnant!

@cupcakemama: Ditto, only worry about it if you have a peanut allergy.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I had an occasional p&j sandwich earlier in the pregnancy but now I haven't been eating it. No history of peanut allergy here so I think I'll start eating peanut butter (and other foods with nuts ) again :)

I have had HUGE cravings for peanut butter, especially in my second trimester, probably because I needed more protein in my diet. In fact, my good friend who's vegetarian, that's her major source of protein right now.
No one was concerned about my eating so much PB, then there was that stupid thing about Kate Middleton refusing peanut paste, and is she pregnant? My mom and SO both insisted I stop until I asked my doctor if it was okay, and she assured me I've done nothing wrong and to keep eating PB as much as I like. I haven't had any bowls lately (yes, BOWLS), but I do still indulge in a heaping spoonful every few days.

Actually the research is now pointing to the opposite. Unless there is family history peanuts are fine in pregnancy and they are now recommending exposure to allergens early, when baby starts in on solids.

Yes, this is what they say but I ate peanut butter while pregnant...however I still haven't given my LO nuts so I don't know if it had an impact. There aren't any nut allergies in our family so I didn't feel like I needed to avoid it but we shall see....

I vaguely remember hearing something similar.
I had a jar of peanut butter at my desk at work and would eat many spoonfuls/day. :)
My LO and I seem to be okay though.

So I'm currently pregnant but a friend told me that eating peanut butter (or peanuts) during pregnancy can increase your chances of your baby developing a peanut allergy....and possibly increase if you or your SO have allergies. I haven't researched this topic but anyone else heard or have experienced this?
