@BabyBoecksMom: I asked the pediatrician if he was getting too much but she didn't really answer - said whatever I was doing must be fine. His weight jumped from 50% to 75% from 6 to 9 months but wasn't concerned. She said he would probably drop back to 50% once he started crawling. (His dad and I are both very long and lean.) He will sometimes spit up a little after a bottle, but he has reflux. Never after a meal. Right now he has 18oz of formula per day (three 6oz bottles). 3 meals and a snack.

@Looch: A few people have told me the good eaters early on become the picky eaters lately:( He has actually been refusing broccoli lately - I have to hide it in grilled cheese. I was actually kinda happy when he refused it for the first time because it meant he could say no!

Yeah, we had that problem too, my son was a bottomless pit and I don't know where he put it all. Then at 18 months, he became so picky, it's amazing to me that he gets enough to survive.

After a year old, the weight gain/growth slows down, so I wouldn't worry too much!

LOL - that sounds like my LO, and she's on the smaller side. I always let her lead because babies/toddlers don't know how to stuff themselves. If you're worried about it, you can always ask your pediatrician to make sure you're not overfeeding him.

Does he spit/throw up after a meal? How often does he eat? Is he eating more meals than snacks?

For a little background, my 10 month old was born hungry and that hasn't changed one bit. As an infant he wanted to nurse constantly and once we switched to formula, he was downing 7oz bottles like shots. When we introduced solids, he finished his very first bowl of oatmeal. Literally licked it clean. And will eat anything now. I know this is a good thing when so many moms struggle to get their kids to eat at all, but I worry that he is a bottomless pit. The only time (once in 10 months) he didn't finish a bottle was the day he ended up being admitted to the pediatric ICU for a week for RSV. He has never not finished a meal. Will spend 5 minutes picking up the little crumbs left behind. And I'm pretty sure I'm not underfeeding him - he eats a grilled cheese (one slice of bread in half) and a 4oz container of mixed veggies for lunch. I'm attaching a picture of a sample dinner. It's a lot of food, but he eats it all! So...

How do I know how much to give him when he cleans his plate no matter what? I worry that I am setting him up to overeat. He's a big kid - 31 inches and 22 lbs at 9 months - so I know his caloric needs may be higher than a smaller 10 month old, but I still worry that I'm overfeeding him. And the comments I get about his being chubby don't help that feeling!

Anyone else have an "eater?" How did you decide how much to give your LO?
