I wouldn't worry about it. I think you're probably picking up more words than daycare. When I go back and watch videos of LO1 talking 12-18 months now I can't understand what she's saying but I totally understood her "words" then. Now I wonder if my 19mo LO2 is less verbal or if I'm just paying less attention. I imagine that would be magnified with the number of kids in a daycare.

When my son was 2 his daycare teacher told me that they were working on him putting two words together. At home he spoke in full paragraphs. I wouldn't worry about it.

@Dahlia: @travellingbee: You guys are probably right, they just don't understand her speech patterns. DD says momo for more as well... everyone always thinks she is saying momma haha.

Sometimes parents understand some words that daycare doesn't recognize or notice. Maybe that's what's going on...?

DD is also 18 months and rarely talks at daycare. At home she's got probably 30 words, and at school she mostly says hi, bye, baby, and ball. I think some of it is that she's observing, and part of it might be that we recognize more words than daycare does since we're around her more and know her speech patterns. For example, we know that "momo" means more and she uses it all the time and in proper context, but maybe daycare doesn't understand yet.

LO is nearly eighteen months and we received her report card yesterday. Her teachers report she only uses three words there, but at home her count is up 16. Any one else have a LO that doesn't use words at daycare?

She apparently says hi and bye to everyone that comes and goes, so I don't think she is shy. She has always been very observant so maybe she just rather take it all in than talk about it? I will be bringing it up with her ped at her 18 month appointment.
