@ValentineMommy: Oh that would be so frustrating. At his 9 month visit our pediatrician mentioned that LO's aversion to slippery foods was probably sensory so we've been avoiding those.

My DS is almost TWO and is still like this. It's so incredibly aggravating. He won't even touch most foods, so we think it's something sensory. We tried having him evaluated recently, and they won't even start until he's 4.

Anyway, no advice, just sympathy from me.

My DD is 13m and still prefers purées. When she's at daycare, she eats regular food with no problem, but at home she's usually not into it. Sometimes she surprises us and gobbles it down, but for the most part we use purées (homemade or pouches) to fill her up. Her doctor wasn't worried about it and said some babies just like purées better and she'll eventually grow out of it. We know she *can* eat finger foods just fine, so it's not a motor/oral issue...so it's just a waiting game at this point.

ETA: sometimes it works to give her finger foods first and purées when she's done with those, but if she's really hungry we have to give her some purée to get something in her belly and then she'll be more willing to try some finger foods. It's always a crapshoot.

@lamariniere: We've tried that and it doesn't help. He still just touches the food, picks it up, throws it on the floor then whines. No attempt to even put it in his mouth. The problem is he's hungry and gets really angry so then hard to feed him the purees afterwards. We have to wait half an hour and try later.

I hid those things from her....the purees and pouches and puffs and things. Out of sight, out of mind. Even now! If she sees them, she WANTS ONLY THEM. So the applesauce and cheerios stays hidden.

eta: eventually they figure it out. but they also know that if they hold out long enough, they get what they want, too.

What if when you sit down to eat, you don't bring out the purees and pouches until later? Maybe he would be more interested if he didn't have so many options?

@sailgrl18: some babies just really love purees and take longer on table foods. I wouldn't stress over it until 14-15 months, but keep offering whatever table foods you are eating. Eventually, his interest will pick up.

LO is 11.5 months and eats a lot. However, he only wants to eat pureed foods or starchy solids. We've been trying to get him to try our food but he throws it off his tray and refuses to eat it. I'm so tired of buying baby food but that's all he eats.

For example here was yesterday's typical food meal. He ate a pancake (which he had no trouble self feeding) and a container of yogurt for breakfast. For lunch he had a jar and a pouch of food. For a snack he had cheerios and a yogurt smoothie. For dinner he had another jar and a pouch of food. He's breastfed and only nurses after naps (2), before bed and when he wakes up.

He's finally sleeping through the night for the last month so I'm hesitant to drop purees cold turkey in case he'll up the night wakings. Any suggestions on how to transition to table foods?
