@coacheswife123:Just so you know, Babies drink faster from a bottle because the milk comes out easily

@coacheswife123: that's what I did at first. I would pump twice a day. Once in the morning (enough for one full feeding for DH to give that night) and then I would pump again in the evening while he gave the bottle and again I would only pump enough for one feeding and that would go in my freezer stash (or in the fridge if I knew I would be away from baby sometime the next day).

@MamaMoose: @LemonLong: oh didn't think about over supply! So when I pump (once a day only when or if DH gives a bottle) should I only pump maybe 2 oz per side instead of completely emptying each side ?

@MamaMoose: I agree, my Lactation Consultant told me to not start pumping until my LO was 3 weeks old to make sure my supply had time to regulate.

@coacheswife123: Awesome that your LO took to the bottle so well. I always think its so sweet to watch my DH feed my LO.

My daughter finishes a bottle waaaaaaaay faster than she nurses. 1.5 ozs is more than enough for him. Don't worry you are both doing great!! Honestly though I would be careful about pumping so much! You could end up with a serious over supply.

The nurse at our hospital told me that babies will drink more quickly from a bottle, even a slow flow, because it's less effort to drink from than the breast. It's one of the reasons people sometimes fear nipple confusion, because the baby could become used to the faster/easier flow and become frustrated having to work harder at the breast. I think nipple confusion isn't a worry if baby has breastfeed down, though- totally not trying to add stress, my baby had an occasional bottle earlier than that (I had to supplement initially) and all is fine.

Also, keep in mind that his tummy is tiny right now, like the size of a walnut. 1.5oz in a feeding sounds fine that young.

8oz!! It used to take me two pumping sessions to pump out 4oz!

Many babies like the boob for comfort, so he may be a bit fussy because it's his first bottle. He'll probably get used to it after a while! Definitely keep it up...i wish i had kept up with the once a day bottles!

From everything I've read it's really easy for babies to drink bottles faster than they nurse because it's harder for them to remove the milk from your boob than for it to just flow out of the bottle down their throats. When we give E bottles we try to hold it as horizontally as possible so he drinks it slower.

You're doing great!

DH gave LO his first bottle tonight. He drank about 1.5 oz on about 7 mins. I usually spend double that nursing so I immediately worried he wasn't full enough.

He is 9 days old and seems full so I guess 1.5 is enough? He wasn't quite sure about the bottle/nipple but ate regardless. Was a little fussy after so I offered him the boob before I pumped and he wasn't interested ! I pumped 8 oz after deciding he was full - so I'm excited about starting to build a stash and DH giving a nightly bottle but am so scared he isn't as satisfied as he was from the boob! I'll be nursing again in a few hrs so I'm sure the worry is pointless !

Feeding is stressful !!
