My LO started freaking out after she had an ER visit and had to go to several doctor's appointments in a row for follow up. We prepared for her 2 year check up by letting her take her lovey with her (a stuffed bunny) and we talked about everything the doctor was going to do...and told her she would get a sticker after she was all done with the doctor. The nurses were so great at being patient and letting bunny get measured/weighed/checked out first and then LO would do it right after bunny did it.

My DD did this, she was frantic the minute she realized where she was and it was a real problem because she had to have regular x rays. However, about two months ago something clicked and she became the calmest, most chilled little patient ever. Didn't even cry at her 18 month shots. I have no idea what changed. I have a feeling in part it was down to a very patient doctor who took the time to joke with her, let her hold the stethoscope etc, pretended she could hear animals inside her body :) We also tried to minimize her distress at known triggers, such as the weighing table, they let us be weighed together on adult scales then weighed me alone and worked out the difference. They also stopped measuring height on the bed and let her stand against the wall. She hates being held down so maybe this helped flip the switch in her head.

Mine does this! She's 21 months now and has been doing it since 9 or 12 months? Yep, I have no idea when it will end, but you're probably closer to the end than I am. ;)

My daughter did this until after she turned 2 years old. On her second birthday, she received a play-toy doctor's kit and watched one episode of Daniel Tiger about going to the doctor and she was hooked! So intrigued! Now, she is animated with her doctors, asks questions, asks to hear her heart, etc. They grow out of it for sure!

my LO does this too - she starts crying as soon as the nurse walks into the room to take measurements and doesn't stop until we leave. she hates when strangers get too close and the poking/prodding. i hope she grows out of it!

My LO is 2 years old, but has always hated the doctor's office. when she was an infant, she would start to cry once the doctor gave her a shot, but ever since she turned 9 months, she starts to cry the minute she sees the outside of his building, the elevator, the waiting room and then turns absolutely hysterical once shes in the examination room. We have to hold her down for shots, getting weighed, measured, etc.

Her fear of doctors isn't limited to her pediatrician. She won't step foot into the eye doctor's office either and it's not even for her!

Does anyone else's kids do this? Do they EVER grow out of this?
