DD got tubes a few months ago. It really is a very quick procedure that is worse on you than it is on them. (I was a wreck up until I had her in my arms). She was a little groggy for about 30 min after and then she was up and running around.

It has made things so much better for her, and I really think it has improved her speech since she can hear better now.

DS had tubes put in both ears at 14.5 months due to fluid in his ears and chronic ear infections. It was such a short procedure. We were in registration:triage/recovery longer than he was in for surgery. He was sleepy when we first got home, but by the evening he was like his old self.

@pelikila: That's so great to hear, thanks. He's not crawling or pulling up at 11 months and the doctor just mentioned he thinks the tubes might help that. I had never even thought that there could be a correlation! Just can't wait to see him more comfortable:)

@SeptMomma12: Immensely. C had the first set at 8 months because the amount of fluid was starting to hinder his development and within hours of surgery he was so much more stable sitting up than he had been previously. It was amazing. And now that the second set has come out we are still going strong without needing a third set (it has been 3+ months)!

C was fine within a few hours. He was sleepy and a little cranky the first few hours but essentially back to normal by that afternoon. C's first set was put in at 8 months and his second set was at 20 months. The surgery itself goes pretty fast (like <20 minutes fast) and then we were called back to the recovery room and got to hold him and be with him for about an hour for monitoring before we could go home. There were no restrictions as far as water (baths and such) and he was given ear drops for 5 days.

My 11 month old is getting tubes put in both ears next week due to chronic fluid. I'm nervous but also feel this will be good for him since he's been pretty uncomfortable for months. Any advice from other moms who have been through it? How did your LO feel after the surgery? The doctor said he should be feeling fine by the next day, but that seems really fast!
