@aunt pol: Thanks this helps! When I worked at a daycare we generally fed most babies every 2 hours so thats what we did as well and the pediatrician was ok with that. She was doing pretty well with it, and she is in the 20 percentile weight wise (shes long and skinny) as of 4 months so I'm sure we weren't over feeding her. I think I might try 6 oz everything 3-4 hours, shes doesn't have a spit up problem so I'm hoping this works better for us.

@lovelife: there is no normal, but olive takes 4-5oz every 3 hours. you said you're offering her something every hour. maybe she's getting full on minisnacks, and if you waited 3-4 hours in between bottles, she'd be hungry enough to take it all?

It's most likely just a phase. I would try stretching her feedings out to 3 or 4 hours. DS went from eating 4 ounces every 3 hours to 5 or 6 ounces every 4 or 5 hours right around that age. If she's hungry, she will eat, so don't worry too much.

DS is in a phase now where he just wants to play all the time, and at daycare he barely takes any formula at all. He eats a lot in the morning and a lot at night, but the other kids at daycare just distract him. He's also eating more solids at lunch, so I know that helps.

@lovelife: My LO takes 6 oz every 3-4 hours with the exception of that large gap at night. My LO is EBF (plus 1 small feeding of solids at night). She also doesn't get a nighttime feeding. All babies are different. Yours will tell you what she wants. And if you're concerned about her intake you can always ask her pedi.

Book I was reading recommends being generous with the bottle - every baby is different - if she will take the full 6 and not spit half of it up, then it's the right amount for her! But you definitely don't need to be feeding every two hours at that age. Maybe move it to every three hours and see how that goes, or the four might work for her. Also make sure she has taken her milk before you offer the oatmeal.

@Mrs. Bee: if i do a 4 hour feeding do i bump up to 6 oz or is 4 still enough? whats normal?
@L2sweetpea: we do a little oatmeal in the evening. I think we will space out feedings.

every 2 hours is pretty frequent. maybe she wants to be on a 4 hour feeding schedule?

Is she eating any solids yet? My LO will eat at 3:30 and the have solids around 6 and then not nurse again until 8/8:30. Also is she taking more quantity at each feeding? She is also far more distractable at this age so can hold out longer because she's happy playing.

My LO has only been taking her bottle when shes tired and ready to sleep other than that she only takes an ounce here and there. Shes in a great mood, it just seems like she'd rather be doing something else... is this just a phase? Shes been more active (rolling all over the living room) so I feel like she'd rather just be playing. I try about every hour to get her to take something. Before this she drank 4 oz. every 2ish hours. shes almost 6 months.

example: she ate at 5:45 and has only taken an ounce since then.. its 9:30 now.

advice? thoughts?
