Yup! He's been hitting his head for months now, but less frequently as he got older. It's always random too! Like he's playing and all of the sudden, he'll stand up and "bonk". (O_O) He'll laugh and say "ow" then go back to playing or sometimes continue hitting himself a few more times before stopping. Weirdo.

@.twist.: I don't have any advice, but C sometimes hits himself in the head when he's mad! He also occasionally bangs his head off the wall when he's pissed (???). I just chalk it up to weird toddler fit throwing!

@.twist.: That's probably about the same age that DS did it. It was almost creepy as he would look us in the eye as he did it. Almost as a sort of defiance thing. Hang in there! I've learned that EVERYTHING is a phase when it comes to kids.

@Mrs. Yoyo: He is 20 months! So, that seems about right. I wonder if it's a communication thing?

@MUI831: Yea, this is kind of what we've been doing too. A relief to know I'm not the only one. I wish he'd stop! haha

DS did this too and it was so strange! If we told him no or to not hit something else, he would hit himself. We didn't really do anything other than tell him to not hit himself or anything else and he grew out of it. I mean, he still hits at times but not himself.

How old? DS did this a bit a little before/right around 2. It faded pretty quickly after he learned a lot more words (his language explosion was a bit later). Just seemed like he did it because he didn't know how to express himself otherwise.

So, recently L has started hitting things and himself. I'm not so concerned about hitting things, because I just ignore it. However, I don't understand why he's hitting himself? Is this normal? It's not hard, and he usually only does it when, I think, he's testing us or he knows I'm not happy with him. Although, even this morning I noticed on the monitor before getting him up that he was hitting himself in his crib!

I feel like it is probably just a phase, but I just wanted to hear some other stories/techniques.
