Thanks everyone! I wouldn't mind if she was gaining weight but right now we are still having to supplement. I have been trying switching sides frequently to keep her interested but anything else really doesn't phase her!

That was us for maybe the first three months! What can I say DD was cuddley, cozy and moved at her own pace. I would say it sounds totally normal to me (although this was the hardest thing for me PP because who could really prepare to have a person attached to you for 24/7!) I just settled into our comfy chair and watched a lot of Nexflix.

Same here. I preferred to think of it as daintally savoring her meals. She's gotten faster but a normal full nursing session is 30-45 minutes now at 3 months. On the plus side she is pretty quiet and not messy when she eats.

Lasted about 2 months for us, then started getting gradually better. Have you watched all of Friday night lights yet? Because that's what I did....ha!
Now she is 6 months and some times I wish she would nurse longer because it's a nice break!

Totally normal! Find something you want to watch on tv :) We would strip C down to a diaper, and I would rub his back to keep him awake. She'll be more alert soon enough! Right now she's helping to establish your supply, so hang in there!

We stripped M down to wake her up enough to nurse. But those first few weeks that really is all you do. Get comfy.... Make sure you have everything you need with in arm's reach, turn on the tv, and let her go.

Hyla was a sleepy nurser at the beginning and sometimes is now. If I need her to nurse, I'll undress her down to her diaper, turn on the fan, and as she slows down, I'll stroke her back, face, and ears or move a bit so she'll start sucking again.

Yup we went through this! Lasted about 2 months and she steadily got faster. Eventually she would be finished in about 5 minutes.

Yep! Xander was a very sleepy newborn and basically slept ate when he nursed! I felt like I was nursing 1 hour on, 1 hour off, 1 hour on, etc. I watched a lot of TV and read a lot of books while he was nursing!! But now at 8 months, he's done in 5-10 minutes, so it does get better!! <3

Yes! LO was a really sleepy nurser, and it felt like all I did early on was breastfeed. Totally normal! It really is a sleepy newborn thing that gets better with time. Here is what we did: wiping him with cool wipes (feet, cheeks, ears, tummy, anyplace), DH bugging him, nursing skin to skin, offering frequently (mine had early weight loss, so my pediatrician had me feeding on demand or every 2 hours, whichever came first; I actually had to set alarms overnight to wake us for to feed. ETA: I wouldn't necessarily do that unless my pedivhad said to, though. Don't make it more work if you don't have to :) ), and patience. Really, the most helpful thing I did was to set up a comfy nest in the living room with everything I needed close by (water, snacks, blankets, burp cloths, etc), and find a few TV shows to binge watch. I put LO's bed nearby so that if we got tired we could both doze (me on the couch, him in the rock n play). It felt like a long time, especially with the early postpartum haziness, but it really did get better over time. He slowly ate more milk, less often, and gained back his weight even before that happened (and then some! He got downright chubby, haha). Hang in there, mama. It gets better!

LO is a lazy nurser. She will BF for up to 45 minutes on the first side, and then enjoy 20+ minutes of dessert on the second. She is sucking the whole time though her swallows are spaced out. At first I thought it was my supply, but my doula thinks it's just how she nurses. I do things to try to keep her more alert but she doesn't care. The only thing that makes a real impact is squeezing my breast to get the milk flowing faster.

My doula reassured me that this is just the sleepy newborn phase and it will get better, but I feel like I am constantly nursing at this pace. We had to supplement for a couple days & honestly, nursing for 20 minutes or so & then giving her a bottle was so much easier! But I obviously don't want to keep that up.

Can any of you relate?
