DS does this! He gets so frustrated sometimes :( he slaps me, too.

@Mrs. Yoyo: that's good to know! I feel like J is on the cusp of words but right now gestures and grunts, speaks a handful of words but I can tell this is frustrating to him.

@MamaCate: as they get more verbal this tapers off. LO did this (though more hitting) and it is very rare now that he's better able to express himself at 26 months. We mostly just ignored and calmly said no since we didn't want it to become an attention thing. He generally wouldn't do anything hard enough to REALLY hurt, though it could look like that at times.

@HLK208: thanks! I am also glad to know it is not just us! I appreciate the emphasis on stating things calmly because I know I get frustrated and can sound frustrated at times too. I am hoping it is a phase that is over soon!

We did! Glad to know it wasn't just us. It was concerning at the time. I would say "we do not bite" and went over being gentle because I love him so much and he's special to me. The calmness in my voice helped him settle down and eventually he stopped.

LO is 21 months. For the past few weeks, when she gets angry she will bite herself on her wrist fairly hard. I try to ignore and redirect negative behaviors and this usually works fairly well. However, I don't want her to hurt herself so I have been holding her and holding her arms and telling her it is not ok to bite. I am not sure this is the best approach.

Anyone else go through this?
