@Ms.Badger: DH was able to get her to successfully take it two days ago so I'm going to have him try tomorrow but if this continues I will definitely call the pediatrician/pharmacist. Thank you!!

@lawbee11: YES, that's the generic! I'm telling you we tried every formulation of the generic in every food (except I was not willing to give my 7 month old chocolate syrup) and nothing worked until we tried the brand name Orapred, which was suggested by one of his GI attendings whose son had the same problem. It was a little pricey but worth it too me. It was difficult to find a pharmacy that stocked it and had to have it special ordered. It is not a compoundable drug from what I understand.

@Ms.Badger: It's prednisolone. Is that the same thing? I just tasted it and it doesn't taste very good. Grrrr should've gotten a flavor!!

@lawbee11: Did you taste it? Some of those medicines are way nastier than others. I tasted all of Lucas's and totally understood why he hated some (there was also one he loved that I thought was super gross, but that was fine by me)

Wait, steroid, is it prednisone? If so, that was the only med Lucas could not keep down until we got brand name orapred. It has a very metallic taste

@MamaBehr: That could work. Good idea!

@hilsy85: I haven't tried pedialyte. We even went to the store today and I completely forgot to get it. DH is going to get some tomorrow. Watering down the milk is a good idea, too!

@Ms.Badger: If I put it in chocolate sauce I guarantee you she'd drink it! It's so weird because she's never had the steroid before but she normally loves the antibiotic without any flavoring (she's had several ear infections). So I have no idea what's going on :bummed:

@lawbee11: Ok, i never did this but the nurses as the hospital swore by putting the med in Hershey's sauce, either chocolate or strawberry.
What I did do is have the meds compounded with a flavor I knew Lucas liked, he preferred grape and orange flavored medicine

Will she drink pedialyte? Or maybe watered down milk, so it won't give her as much mucus? Or what about popsicles/smoothies?

Croup sucks! :(

@lawbee11: could you do a shot of milk then? Just give her a little bit of milk, enough to hide he medicine but not too much?

@MamaBehr: Oh no! Hope Q feels better soon.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Yeah, I also worry about her not finishing the milk and not getting the whole dose. She's also cutting 3 molars and a canine, so she freaks out when I get anywhere near her mouth with anything (syringe, spoon, etc.).

I would ask your pharmacist. The meds probably taste gross, so I don't blame her!

Chloe spit up all her antibiotics when she had her UTI, so we did get the OK to put them in her bottle (she was 3m at the time).

The only issue was she HAD to get the full dose of antibiotics, and it was hit or miss if she'd finish her formula. And, her formula/bottle was only good for one hour.

I would definitely put it in her milk, but I would ask how fast it has to be consumed. Can she sip on the milk over the course of an hour? Does it have to be taken in 15 minutes?

I have put meds into LO's bottle before because it was the only way I could get him to swallow it.

I don't have any ideas, but I'm there with you. Q has had a fever all day, threw up the first dose of Tylenol and refused to take any more medicine. I got her bubble gum flavored Tylenol and that helped, but it is so frustrating.
I hope she gets better fast.

LO has croup and an ear infection, so we're supposed to be giving her an antibiotic and an oral steroid twice a day. This morning she spit half of the steroid back into my hand. And just now she spit up after I gave her both. I am beyond frustrated.

She also won't eat. She only wants milk. She will drink a bit of water, but not much. She's barely eaten anything today. She's got a ton of mucus from the cold/croup (this is contributing to her coughing and spitting up) and milk makes that worse, but it's the only thing she'll drink so I don't want to withhold it.

Is there another way I can give her the meds? Can I add them to her sippy cup of milk? She's never going to get better if she keeps spitting them out/spitting up :(
