Thanks everyone. I'm going to keep trying, and hope that she picks it up in the next few months?

@Pumpkin Pie: My LO is 3. I'm not sure if she would have been able to drink out of the juice box when she was that young, but it definitely does the trick once they get a little older.

@Pumpkin Pie: oh okay, at 13 months I assume she's still drinking a good amount of milk? My daughter didn't drink a ton of water around that age either. Her best water intake was usually from my open glass. Later on she just naturally started drinking more water.

She is 13 months. She won't even drink it from my cup! I tried ice, room temp, but she's won't drink it. We only give her a night time bottle so I don't want to introduce bottle for water.

@MrsF: I'm going to have to look that up.

My LO is like this (she's just about 18 months). She maybe drinks 2-3 oz of milk a day and maybe at best 4-5 oz of water a day?? But, she always has wet diapers and when she's thirsty she really drinks. She also eats a ton of fruit so I guess she gets hydration from that. anyways, if your pediatrician isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry about it. The days I don't think my LO has enough water, I will usually offer her some from my glass and she likes that, but doesn't really drink a ton either. I just don't think she's a thirsty person, lol.

Personally, I think it's important she drinks water. It's the best form of hydration. Have you tried ice water? Adding a splash of juice? In a open cup? From your glass?
Have you asked your Pediatrician if they're concerned about LO's lack of water intake?

Does she like to drink out of your cup? I have great success putting a straw in my water cup and offering him some. He will also guzzle down water at a restaurant for the same reason.

My daughter hardly drinks any water at all and milk is hit or miss. She is also chronically constipated so I was always stressing about it. She will guzzle down a juice box but I don't want her to have juice every day. I finally started buying these juice boxes (mostly water with a splash of juice) so at least I know if she drinks two of these with her snacks she's having 8oz of water a day.

Will she drink it out of a bottle? When ds was sick last week he wouldn't drink out of his cup but he drank a bottle fine. Might get her used to it?

I'd try putting a tablespoon of apple or grape juice in a sippy full of water and see if she'll drink it. I'm not a huge fan of my LO having juice, but I think if it's super diluted like that, it's probably better than dehydration. My LO also loves tea, so I have given her (cooled) chamomile and peppermint teas on days when I've been worried about her not drinking enough. Or I've made "nursery tea" by pouring some hot water from the kettle into a teacup and mixing it with cooled water to make it a safe temperature (barely lukewarm), then adding a splash of milk. I think the combination of it taking multiple steps and being mixed, the warmer temperature, and the fact that it seems like a "grown-up" thing make it exciting for her.

I give her a ton of fruit, and she seems to be getting a bit constipated, but will not for the life of her drink water!

Mine has never been a big drinker. She doesn't drink much milk or water- like less than a sippy cup a day. Her doc told me to keep an eye on her diapers to make sure she wasn't dehydrated and to offer lots of alternate hydration, e.g. fruit. She's almost three, and she drinks more now and has for the last six months or so. She still drinks less than her peers, but I've stopped worrying because the doc seems unconcerned and she seems fine.

Have you tried seltzer? My husband introduced it to our son. He drinks a bit more than I would like, but it's definitely better than nothing!

I've tried all different kinds of cups, even flavored water with lemon and cucumber. She just does not drink water. ever. Do you have any tips? Will she grow out of this? Does she need water? She drinks milk fine.
