@Bao: It's from the book the Wonder Weeks (most of the shared info is on the website http://www.thewonderweeks.com/)

"Babies cry during a leap because they’ve reached a radical new step in their mental development. That is good: it gives them the opportunity to learn new things. The “difficult” behavior is actually a signal that great progress is underway." from the website

My LO did the same thing, basically. He was sleeping 6+ hour stretches every night, then he got a bit of a cold and so things obviously regressed during that time. Things got a bit better for a couple of weeks, but ever since 3.5 months it's been a big downward spiral. At first he was sleeping only 1-2 hour stretches at night!! Fortunately night sleeping has gotten a bit better (although 4 hours is still the longest stretch we've seen in a while!), but naps have become almost non-existent during the day.
I hear that 4 months tends to coincide with wakefulness and possible teething...I think we just managed to hit both of those early :(

@pastemoo: What do you guys mean when you say reaching a milestone? May be a stupid question but I've heard of growth spurts but never that

@littlek: This is also what came to my mind.

I don't know what it is but I wouldn't worry about the future. Sleeping habits change so quickly with babies!

@littlek: I hope that's all it is and not a look into the future of how her sleeping habits will be....

Might be a growth spurt or she could be about to reach a milestone.

My LO is almost 3 months old and at around 6 weeks she would sleep a 7 hour stretch before waking up to eat, then it would be followed by a 3-4 hour stretch. Now, she sleeps a 4 hour stretch TOPS, followed by 2-3 hour stretches. Anyone know why all the sudden she isn't sleeping as long anymore? This has been going on for over 2 weeks now. I would love to get those longer stretches back again, so if anyone has any tips, I welcome them all!
