@Mrs. Jacks: Thanks! We had to fight like crazy to get the doctors to listen to us. Everyone wanted to "wait and see" but was obvious the poor kid was uncomfortable (and frustrated). He is like a new kid since the tubes!

His ears probably played a role. He'll get it! Good job being on top of the hearing issues!

My younger brother left the first consonant off almost every word for quite awhile after he started talking. He'd speak in full sentences, just with key letters missing, i.e. "Ant ore rawberries lease!" (Want more strawberries please!) My parents were getting sort of worried as it went on, but just about the time we really got good at decoding him, he switched to regular speech. I was young so I don't remember exactly how old he was when that happened, but I want to say 20-22 months?

It's a great start! For 13 months I actually think that's a great little vocabulary already.
My son is 20 months and still only says portions of words or phrases- some of it is laziness (I've heard him say thank you very clearly but he very rarely says it correctly), but some I think is sill just too advanced. Like for where is it or what is that he merely just says, "is?"

Normal :) Lorelei started out saying "ki-ki" for kitty, "EE-EE" for Ellie, etc. Now at 19 months she is quite well spoken.

Very normal. DS would sometimes create a totally different word, and it took a lot of deciphering on our part to understand. Eventually they learn and will correct themselves. Even better that your LO has made so much progress. DS didn't start talking until 18 months.

I wouldn't worry. It sounds like a great start! My son isn't trying any words beyond Dada, Mama and he's almost 14 months.

Very totally normal. They start saying the full words eventually. I wouldn't worry at all yet. :)

My LO is 13 months and we've noticed he's doing a lot more imitating lately and finally adding some words to his Dada-centric vocabulary! The only thing is that he doesn't seem to complete any of his words... Car is "caaaa". Apple is "pull". Our cat (Bear) is "bea". Bird is "bir", etc.

He definitely knows what each of those objects are and uses the term consistently and correctly, but he never says the whole word (except Dada).

Is this normal for this age, or should he be saying the whole words? He had some babbling delays because of ear fluid problems, so this is all new to us since he finally got his tubes 2 months ago.
