I will usually leave him in there for an hour as long as he is happy. I don't worry so much about associating the crib with playtime as there are only sleep cues present - sleep sack, lovey, lights off.

I leave her in her cot until she starts fussing - if she spends her whole nap time playing quietly in her cot, that's ok too. I think the down time is good for her, even if she doesn't actually sleep. She's nearly a year now and hasn't had any issues with confusing her cot with being for sleep time so it's worked out well for us.

I'm with @weagle - I'd leave him if he was happily playing till the end of regular nap time, or at least an hour. If he's happy, I see no reason to go get him. Enjoy some time to yourself!

I would leave him until the normal end of nap time or as long as he was happy.

I usually give LO about 20 - 30 minutes. Then I give up on nap time.

My LO is younger than yours but I probably wouldn't do more than an hour even if she was happy. Mainly because I want her to associate her crib with sleep not play time.

At 12 months, I know we are flirting with a transition to one nap. This morning, C was exhausted and slept for a solid 2 hours til I had to wake him so we could get to an appointment on time. This afternoon, after 3.5 hrs of wake time, and all the tired signs there, I put him down for nap #2.

AN HOUR AND TEN MINUTES LATER, he is still playing in his crib. 15 minutes in, I went in there and changed his #2 diaper (hear the grunting in the monitor - sorry for overshare). Put him back down, still seeming very tired, but no luck.

Probably going to get him soon. Giving him "quiet time" I guess.

How long would you let your LO play in the crib if they won't nap? And since he didn't sleep...early bed time? Ugh...
