@Mrs. Jacks @mrskc: looks like I have excess lipase in my milk... It tastes nasty!! I don't want to jinx it but DH just started giving him a bottle and he started sucking right away. He stopped after a few seconds but that's a good sign. Crossing my fingers he will keep drinking the yucky tasting milk.

Ugh we went through this with LO. She hated the bottle and we struggled for weeks with it. It was beyond frustrating. Then, one day, she just took it. I think for her it was an age thing. I think she was about 4 months when she started to take it ok. Having the bottle warm helped too.

Hang in there and good luck.

@oahujeni: too funny! Whatever works! You will know if you have excess Lipase in your milk when you taste it. I have it and that's what I thought the problem was when my LO wouldn't take the bottle sometimes. Luckily, I tested him out and he's willing to drink the gross tasting milk.

@oahujeni: I bit the bullet and tasted! You've got to leave one in the fridge for couple of days and freeze and unfreeze one to check.

@Mrs. Jacks: Thank you for linking, I was having trouble finding it. Great advice on giving the bottle outside. When LO is getting fussy, DH brings him on a "tour" of the backyard and it always puts him in a calm state so maybe giving a bottle out there will work too. How do you know if the milk has lipase?

@travelgirl1: Sorry to hear about your struggles too :( I'm very lucky that he does well with breast feeding so I can't imagine how stressed you are.... I feel for ya!

@musicav: i thaw it by running under warm water but maybe it's not getting warm enough (I just get it to around room temp if I can.) I will try to get it warmer when we feed him tomorrow night.

@mrskc: funny, my son doesn't seem to care about the vacuum but he calms down when there's loud music playing. DH got him to chill tonight by playing Metallica really loud. Go figure.

We are going through this. Persistence plus survival instinct is finally working. Last week our nanny gave the baby bottles every day. Monday she took 2 ounces, Tuesday 5, Wednesday 8, Thursday 12 and Friday 12! We have been careful not to force is but to rub the nipple on her lips or chin and let her take it. Over and over and over! She's been reverse cycling which sucks but I am confident with her pattern right now she'll go back to a normal schedule as she gets more and more used to the bottle.

My daughter doesn't really like bottles but she will take them if she's really hungry. I've only tried Avent.

ETA: she only will take warm bottles as well.

@oahujeni: we are going through exactly the same thing right now but A is also struggling to breastfeed so today I fed her a couple if ounces of pumped milk in a syringe. Not my most favourite day. So no advice but I know how hard it is and stressful and really hope it resolves for you guys soon :)

@Tidybee: That's my fear... That when I go back to work he will refuse bottles at daycare and then he won't be able to go. I had a dream that I had to quit my job so I could stay home and feed LO.

we continue to struggle with the bottle. she took them fine between 4-6 weeks, then became really stubborn after that. just keep trying one bottle a day with a little bit of milk so as not to waste any. our LO liked lansinoh mOmma bottles better than any other brand. the nipple seems softer but less bend-y at the base so it was harder for her to push the nipple out of her mouth. LO still screams beforehand but will drink one bottle a day...sometimes split into two different times. what works for us: if she is really hungry, she will drink it down more quickly than if she isn't hungry. if LO is drowsy and has her eyes closed, its a little easier because she isn't paying attention. sometimes switching up which arm i am holding her in will work, who knows why. i know how supremely frustrating it can be! just keep at it!

@MamaMoose: thank you, I'm searching for that post now! I don't know if the MAM bottles have the same nipples as their pacifiers because DS refuses those too. But I haven't tried the bottles yet so it's worth a shot...

Ugh, I'm sorry. DD refused it whenever I was home but took it without any problem this week when I went back to work. My LC assured me that she wouldn't let herself starve and that if she was hungry enough, she'd take it.

Mrs Jacks did a great post about bottle refusal so I would check that out. I think MAM bottles are what eventually worked for them. I can't give you any first hand advice... We started one bottle a day when she was 5 days old and so far we haven't had refusal issues.

We have been trying to give LO a bottle of breastmilk every night so that he will get used to it by the time he starts daycare in March. Poor DH is in our bedroom right now attempting to get him to drink it and will be in there for at least another hour to get LO to drink even an ounce. We've gotten him to the point where he doesn't scream anymore but now he just plays with the nipple back and forth with his tongue and refuses to suck. We have tried so many things to get him to take it -- different times of the day, in a location other than where I nurse him, with the lights on, in dim lighting, in the dark, holding him, putting him in a swing or the rock n play, and we are now on our fifth type of bottle. It is so frustrating but DH is amazing at staying as calm as possible so LO does too.

If you went through something similar, how did you finally get your LO to take a bottle? We've been trying for two weeks and he is now 6 weeks old. Not sure if it's related but he refuses pacifiers as well. Ugh!!
