We got "please" when he learned "up" because I required him to say "up please" instead of just demanding to be picked up. "Thank you" followed about a month or two later with "welcome" about a month or two after that.

Please! As soon as he figured out it would get him what he wanted he was all over it. Then "gracias" or "shashass" as he said it. Then finally thank you ;)

@Honeybee: haha Lo used to say please too right around when she turned a year too but it hasnt' been for awhile. She was saying it while we were traveling and I think I got lax after that. i feel like she knows when to use thank you now so hopefully this one sticks a little better, when she was saying please I think she was just imitating me to make me smile.

DD could sign please at 12/13 months but didn't learn thank you until 15/16 months. And then she forgot please. :) learning manners is an ongoing process!

From my nannying experience, the kiddos usually learned them separately. They would often get it confused too, and when I would ask: "what do you say?" It would be thank you (when it should have been please)...I think if your LO knows thank you, that is great! She will learn please in no time :)

My LO loves to say thank you, or dank dew, which I love. I thought learning please and thank you would go hand in hand but she def doesn't have the please down yet. Did your LO learn then separately or together
