@Pepper: I mixed it in with oatmeal so it was nice and smooth and thinned out. I doubt she really tasted it all that much, but it was enough to see that she didn't have a reaction. I made sure to do it on a weekday when I knew the ped's office was open, and they are right up the street from me :)

We haven't tried citrus yet, but this is good to know! Hope she feels better soon.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, my ped said the same thing... that they changed the recommendations! She didn't think he'd like the consistency of peanut butter just yet though. And to be honest, I'm too chicken to try it ;)

@cmomma17: My ped specifically said all allergen foods (like peanut butter) were fine before one!

@Bookish: don't beat yourself up! My ped only gave me the short list of cows milk, citrus, peanut butter, and honey as no nos before age one. No other advice ever! Hope your LO feels better soon! I can't wait to try cuties soon!

Hmm-- she has a bright spot of diaper rash-- maybe it was the orange at lunch yesterday!

My ped didn't say anything about restrictions-- just no honey before one, everything else was fair game but watch for reactions.

We haven't given C that much orange, but she loves it when we do. I was worried about the citrus irritating her tummy so I have only given her orange every few days and we haven't had any problems so far-- in fact, she has been really constipated, maybe I should have given her more!

Recently I have been doing like you-- peeling into segments, then cutting into puff size pieces. I used to give her the full segment and she would suck out the pump and juice, but she started pulling the skin/pithe into her mouth too and I am afraid she'd gag on it.

I thought it was funny how much she loves oranges, since it was my one true pregnancy craving!

@cmomma17: gah, my ped didn't say anything about it, but now that I'm googling, I see a lot of articles about cirtus + tummy issues. Well, now I know.

@junebugmama: thanks! Good to know he outgrew it. LO loooooves the citrus, so I was hoping this wasn't a permanent thing.

My ped said no citrus before one, so we have avoided it so far. I know the acidity can cause diaper rash and other irritation.

I noticed my son really just swallowed a lot of things whole at times, and so I wouldn't worry about that.

He did have lose stool and then occasionally a diaper rash later if he had citrus, when he was smaller. He eventually outgrew it.

Orange slices were actually one of the first foods we gave to LO, but they were large slices, and she really just sucked on them to get the juice. Yesterday we picked up some Cuties to give her as an add-on to her lunch, and she loved them!

However, as the day went on, her poops got looser and looser, and she just threw up the unchewed chunks (she has no teeth, so we cut them up into puff-sized pieces) of the cuties (along with 8oz of formula...).

I feel a bit dumb because I thought she was mashing them to pieces with her gums, and didn't realize she was swallowing them whole. She's showing no other signs of illness, so I'm wondering if it is in fact the cuties that are giving her tummy problems.

Any experiences to share?
