There was a major highway crossing involved, but we had a crossing guard (the have recently built an underpass at that crossing so it is no longer an issue). It was a 15-20 minute walk. Assuming the neighborhood was safe, and there were similar road safety things involved, I would have no problem letting my LO walk to school!</p> <p>My neighborhood had lots of kids around the same age, or with older siblings, so we would pick each other up along the way. I never once had any sort of safety issue. With a group of friends starting as an upper grader/4th grade (so, 9-10 years old?) and if she doesn't have friends to walk with, I'd pick her up/drop her off.
