@MrsBrewer: I never ever could figure out this sleepy but awake thing w/ DD. Yeah, DD knows I'm the softy. For a while I couldn't put her down.. She just wanted to play with me! They change so much all the time, I don't even have much expectations now. She was really great about rolling around by herself with me next to her and then falling asleep. Lately she needs me to wear her to sleep (not rocking, not holding, wearing). So weird!

@Madison43: I guess I'm just not used to letting her cry by herself at all! Her entire life so far (10 months!!) I've always held and consoled her. But I'm starting to realize that I won't be able to do that forever! Plus how unrealistic is it to hold her for every nap!?

@snowjewelz: You are awesome! I totally understand that guilty feeling though you are talking about. I have it today! I'm hoping that when I try it out myself this weekend it will go similarly. I was told by a coworker though that her daughter would go do for other people, and wouldn't cry long. but as soon as she (the mom) would try, the baby would scream hysterical because she knew mom would come back and get her. I'm afraid I will be in the same situation!

@MrsBrewer: Agree! I know it's hard! But at the same time, easier when you're not there. DD went to daycare at 10 months and I knew they couldn't just hold her the whole time (they actually did for the first week), and she'd wake up when they put her down and they couldn't always put her back down and I was so heartbroken/feeling guilty but now at 15 mo she takes 1.5-2 hr naps there by herself!

I also did start letting DD roll around to try to fall asleep herself and she did start doing that too, since she weaned early ish and I didn't have nursing to sleep as a tool anymore.

So I am a "success" story of do whatever works and they don't come out the other end with "bad habits"!

@MrsBrewer: that's not crying it out! That's normal settling down stuff. We never ever did cry it out, but when my LO was that age she definitely needed a minute or 2 of fussing to settle down. Then she would chat to herself and fall asleep.

@snowjewelz: Oh and the last few days LO won't even go down in the crib for a nap with me, she constantly startles and wakes up when I would put her down. Maybe I will have to start putting her down how my mom is, sleepy but awake.

@snowjewelz: Thank you, thank you, thank you for saying that  seriously...... I still just feel so guilty. I was having my mom text me updates. and yea i just couldn't believe it. And I trust my moms instincts and I know she would have went in there if she was crying too hard.

@MrsBrewer: 2-3 minutes to me isn't CIO at all! I think it's GREAT that she only cried for a few minutes! Trust me, I don't CIO either but I do find that sometimes you just need to give them some space and if crying for a few minutes is what they need to do, let them! This is coming from a "do anything except let them cry" mom and I think that at your DD's age it's okay to let them fuss for a few minutes. My rule is no more than 5 minutes also, less if it's hysterical.

Ok I just have to update, and my mom watched LO today, and she asked if she could let DD cry/whine a little in her crib when she goes down for a nap. I said sure, just make sure she isn't hysterical or anything and go in after like 5 minutes.

This girl of mine. I guess she cried for 2-3 minutes, then settled down and babbled for another 1-2 minutes, and then fell asleep. Both naps were 1.5 hours in the crib!!!!

Looks like I'm going to have to just suck it up and listen to her cry for a little bit. I'm really hoping that soon she will just know laying down in her crib means nap time and she will stop crying all together.

This happens to DH sometimes. Usually we are persistent with it though. Even if he wakes up DH will pick him up, he will fall back asleep, and put him back down. Sometimes that routine happens a few times but he will go to sleep. Now we have more nights where DS will fall asleep sooner. I also second the idea that maybe they need to hold her longer.

Maybe they need to hold her longer? What if you time how long from when you think she is asleep to when you put her down, then have them add five minutes to that (anyone who never had a crappy sleeper would think this is insane). I remember with my first baby Dh and I would literally check our phones to make sure we were waiting 20 full minutes at night before putting her down to make sure she was in a deep sleep- that wouldn't work as well for naps though since they are shorter.

It's rough. My baby now has started to only take a bottle from me, even though I am the only person who doesn't need to give her a bottle.

@MrsSRS: yep, they try and do the same thing, DH and my mom and MiL all follow the same routine as me in her room lights off everything. As soon as they lay her down she wakes and startles. No matter even if she's in a deep sleep. Maybe she really isn't in as deep of a sleep as they think though?

So I posted a while ago that LO will only nap while being held. Well now at almost 10 months, I (personally) have broken that! I am able to rock her and put her down for a nap in her crib, no problem. But......no one else can?! My husband, baby sitter, MIL, or my mom. All of which watch her on a regular basis.

A couple things, I will not CIO, it's just not for me. I'm so glad it works for many people, but it's not for us. we have a routine, I go in her bedroom, turn off the lights, turn on the white noise and read her a short story. This routine mimics the bedtime routine.

I am always the one to put her down for bed at night, because I generally nurse her to sleep at night. Should I start nursing her a little before bedtime, and try to have DH put her down?

I'm just sooo confused because I don't have any issues getting her to sleep in the crib. But when other people put her down she freaks out, and thrashes around, and if they leave the room she will scream and cry until they come back in and hold her. then she will fall back asleep in their arms (which is generally where she naps then.)

uhh.....has this happened with anyone else?
