When I introduced a sippy cup at first I just placed it on the side of the high chair and made no mention of it. Eventually she got curious and started slowly using it on her terms.
Worked for both my older LO's.

Have you tried the Zoli Bot? It was the only one LO could get the hang of at first and I know several other people whose LO's had trouble with sippy cups until they tried that one.

Skipping the cup all together and going right to a regular one is also another option.

I would either get a new kind of just keep trying once a week. My LO didn't understand the straw cup so I kept getting her new ones and spent all sorts of money.... then I offered the original one a couple of months later and she was fine with it. She just wasn't ready before that.

My LO also wouldn't hold her own bottle. She could.... but she knew I would do it for her so she just never would. Then she hit 12 months, we stopped giving her a bottle, and she always held her own sippy so we never had to worry about that again.

I would try a different cup, I know I've recommended it before, but the end game is to get them to use a regular open cup, right?

This is a fantastic training cup:

LO will be 8 months in a few days, and he does exactly what yours does! He can hold his own bottle, and tries, but when I tip it up, he drops his hands. The same happens for the sippy. Just keep at it. LO will now grab the sippy and try to suck out of it, but when I tip it up for him, he'll drop his hands. A month ago, he would only chew on the spout and we just kept offering it to him once a week until suddenly last week he started to take it.

It really took until 9 months for my lo to get the hang of a straw cup. I offered it all the time and he just chewed on it. I think what helped in the end was we were out to dinner and I filled a straw with water and used it as a dropper for him and let him suck it. The next day he was sucking away at the zoli!

He's 1 and still doesn't do great with a regular sippy.

My lo only chews on her spout sippy cup. I have tried a straw (awhile ago though, over a month) and she didn't "get" it.

Sbould I continue to offer it? Switch to a straw? How often should I be offering it..I barely do because she just doesn't seem ready. She doesn't hold her own bottles either. She has the ability to, and I've seen her do it before, but once she sees my hand near the bottle (helping her tip it further, because she doesn't seem to really get that) she drops it.

Should I be more concerned about self feeding? She tries to grab the spoon when she eats purees but I don't let her because of the mess.

My baby is eight months old.
