@JoJoGirl: She did redeem herself by sleeping till 8 this morning. But she just took 23 mins of full on crying to finally lose out to her morning nap. Getting her to sleep last night was rough too. Maybe she is teething and that is what is going on. Who knows. I feel like I have no clue what I am doing these days.

@JoJoGirl: I am sorry!! Babies are so hard. R was sleeping till 5 and has been waking up 30 mins earlier every night. Last night she woke at 1130 and 5. So much for sleeping through the night. I am not sure what is going on with her. She isn't going down for naps easily either too. We might have to resleep train :(

Ugh, she is back at it. Up from 2:30-4:30 last night. It seems to be every few days regardless of her napping. I feel like sleep training is our only option, I can't go to work like this. :(

@JoJoGirl: Ugh, I am sorry it wasn't a repeat performance. For a while we were getting a 6 or 7 hr stretch almost every night, but we are not on an almost identical schedule to your day yesterday. I made DH promise to sleep in his nursery tonight on the air mattress while I sleep in our room...he will give LO pumped milk at the night wakings and I will get the first straight 8 hours of sleep I've gotten since 2nd tri!

@maybebaby: Not as well :( I was like a nap nazi trying to recreate the other day. She woke up finally at 8:30am, napped 9:30-10:30, 12-1, and then 3-5. She was down for the night by 7:30, then up at 1am and 5am and wouldn't go back to sleep. Grrr! DH took her at 6 and said she slept for maybe 30 more minutes. It's 8:45 now and she just went down for her first nap. Gah.

@erinpye: It actually depends on her! I can tell when she will go down easily or not, depending on how much she wakes up during the feeding. I can usually put her down "awake" (ie her eyes are open but she sort of slept through the whole feeding) and she'll fall right back asleep. If she really wakes up during the feeding and looks around, gets distracted, stares at the nightlight etc, I know she won't go down on her own and will start the rocking/bouncing/etc routine again. Which often doesn't even make her go back to sleep. Once she's up, she's up.

I'm sorry :( I know exactly what that's like. Are you putting her down while she's still awake, after her night feedings? I know a lot of people recommend that, but it just NEVER worked for us. We had to rock our DD back completely to sleep before putting her back down, until she was about 9 months old (although she was waking much less often by that age). I read something that said babies need to be parented to sleep at that young of an age, and it helped me feel less frustrated that she was "unwilling" to fall asleep, and realized I just needed to help her get there.

Another thought is she may not be getting enough sleep total. Check the total number of hours in a 24 hour period--for 3 months old, she should be getting 3-4 naps per day and sleeping a total of approximately 15 hours for every 24 hour period, with only 90-120 mins of wake time between naps (a catnap or two is OK!). When babies get overtired, they wind up, and wake more often/ earlier. It's definitely true for our DD.

Good luck, mama! Glad that with the update she slept well!

@rachiecakes: Looking back at my notes, she napped at 10am, 1:30pm (while being worn) and 4:30pm (while being worn) yesterday, which sounds more like a 'big girl' schedule and less like a newborn. Will definitely try that again today!

Also she's still sleeping (it's 8). I was so excited I made DH pancakes for breakfast. haha.

@AprilFool: Actually we do put her to sleep in the nursery because it's STILL bright in our room at 7pm (this would be much easier in the winter, ha ha!). So she falls asleep in the nursery, wakes up in our room, and then usually goes back to sleep in the nursery. We need to fix this system.

So update..

LO SLEPT 9 HOURS STRAIGHT!!! To bed at 7:45pm and up at 4:45am. Then went right back to sleep at 5 and is still sleeping (it's 6:30am). I'm wondering if this was just a crazy wonder week/growth spurt/sleep consolidation thing now that she's 13 weeks and she'll finally start getting her sleep in order.. or maybe everyone is right that she needs to nap *less* during the day?! She was SO CRANKY last night but I think I will definitely start waking her up from naps longer than like an hour.

@JoJoGirl: hmmm maybe it's the change in room that signals wake time. What time do you usually go to bed? Maybe moving her in there while she is asleep just before you go to bed, so she is not in there by herself for the whole night but wakes up in there so it's not strange to go back to sleep there.

@AprilFool: GOod question. It's sort of a stupid system. Our room is VERY BRIGHT with a skylight and huge unshaded dome window. DH and I both sleep with eye shades. So she goes to bed in our room, and then during her night waking I move her into the nursery for the rest of the night where it's dark. She would wake up at dawn and stare at the skylight so right now that's what we do... DH doesn't want to move her into her own room for the whole night because of what he's read about SIDS risk.

@JoJoGirl: Yay for 7 hours! Is she in your room or her own room? Is she alone in the room when she goes to sleep? You said she's prone to stimulation so maybe you and DH being there at 3am is what makes her want to stay awake?

@looch: Okay so let's see how tonight goes. Today was CRAP in the nap department. 10-10:50am, a catnap around noon for 20 mins, some snoozing in the moby 1:30-2:30 and more snoozing (I don't think she sleeps well in there) 4:30-5:30. She's in the bath now with Dh and I plan to put her down between 7:30 and 8. Will keep you posted :)

@JoJoGirl: I would log everything, I did because I had to, otherwise I would get all stressed out about how poor the sleep was and when I spoke to the ped about it, I'd have no idea what the actual data was.

Her naps are all over the place during the day, so I should go back to logging them and see what happens. She went back down close to 5 and slept til 7:30, then finally went down for a nap at 10. Sometimes she'll sleep for 30 minutes, sometimes 2 hours. The other day she slept for 3.5 hrs (!?) and that was the night she didn't sleep well, so I need to really start logging it better, I guess. It's hard to know because she often will sleep in the Moby, and that's the only way I can get out of the house, so if I'm out walking around for a while she'll sleep the entire time! I guess I should log that as a 'nap' too and see what trends I can find?

@JoJoGirl: are you logging the time awake and napping during the day? I found that the formula that worked well for us was to have a good morning nap about 45minutes to an hour after waking up in the morning. Then, we'd have a longer stretch in the between the naps and even longer between the third nap. My son dropped the third nap quite early and kept the morning nap for a lot longer than most toddlers do (well past 18 months).

Sorry for the novel, but not every baby is textbook and follows the sleep begets sleep mantra. I tried to make him a Weissbluth baby, but he wasn't having it, lol.
