My little man has been more restless than usual lately too, he's only 19 mos, but he used to either knock right out or talk to himself for 5-10 mins and then knock out. We are still hearing him 30+ mins later and sometimes even have to go in and settle him.

Maybe its the moon!?

PS, Hi March mommy friend!

@BabyBoecksMom: @gracecat: @sorrycharlie: We have a set routine but she takes forever to fall asleep once we leave her room. She doesn't call for us, doesn't come out saying she needs to pee, she just lays in her bed singing to herself, or plays with her baby doll.

This was my son as well. The only difference was that he was napping, so once we dropped it, he started falling asleep faster.

The only two things I can think of are that she might be hungry (i can't sleep when my mind is full and my stomach is empty) or that she is overtired.

we also have a strict bedtime routine. she goes to bed early (but always has - and gets up early). our night routine looks like this if this helps at all -

5 pm - sit for dinner.
530 pm - baths if needed (usually every other night)
she plays for a few in her room while I get my baby ready for bed
6 pm - pajamas on, brush teeth, potty, two books. my husband reads them on the floor with her, but I do it in her bed so transition more to sleep

after that, it's lights out, end of story. she gets a cup in her bed (but no bedtime snack because we don't eat that long before bed anyway!). I turn on the twilight turtle, tuck her in, kiss and hug and that's that.

does she need more wind down time at night? quiet activites? I also avoid any electronics or tv after dinner because it totally winds her up in a bad way.

We have a pretty strict bedtime routine. We can't allow stalling because she gets overtired so easily and then it takes even longer to get her down.

We do dinner by 6:15/6:30, bath, brush teeth, pj's, book and then lights out by 7:30. No snacks. We leave a cup of water by her bed in case she's thirsty. After lights are off, we sit for about a min and then leave. We always tell her we'll check on her but she usually passes out before that.

Hmmm. Maybe the bedtime routine needs to be more strict as you mentioned? Actually our bedtime routine takes at least an hour but I think it's good because we have had almost the same routine since she was 3 months old. I am guessing the sleep cues of her routine are helpful. Dim lights gradually before bath time, and a warm bath makes her yawn without fail! Low voices and lights throughout story time, white noise, patting her back till she falls asleep. Ultimately I think how tired she is determined how quickly she falls asleep! Does your toddler fall asleep faster depending on how much activity they had during the day?

Could be an age thing! DS is almost three and does this. I'd be ok with it but he has to be up on time for day care!

DS is 2 and also takes a bit to settle down. But no matter what time he finally falls asleep at, he wakes up the same time every day, give or take, 30 minutes. The only changing after is the number of MOTN awakenings he has. Sigh.

I was hoping this was an age thing because my 3 year old is doing it too. Drives me insane because I have to wake him by 6:30am and he is grumpy as hell. I put him down around 8 and he didn't fall asleep til close to 10 :bummed:

My LO takes 60-90 mins every night to go to sleep. Nothing seems to help. Even if she stays up late, it still takes her that long to settle down.

My LO is 3 and has always had a hard time settling down at night and going to sleep but lately it's been more extreme. It's not so much as hyper, but more awake than I think she should be at 8:30 at night. It took two hours for her fall asleep last night! We do a night routine but it's not super strict. She does eat a bedtime snack but it's usually something like pretzels or crackers, maybe I should cut the snack to an earlier time? She usually has it around 7:00. She is constantly saying she is hungry though. I know some of it is stalling but I would love to get the bedtime routine plus fast asleep down to about 30 minutes, if possible.

Any tips on getting LO to settle at night and get into sleep mode instead of play mode? She doesn't nap and is awake by 8:30am usually if that helps.
