DS has been in daycare 6 months now. The first while his naps were all over the place. He was still on two naps at home when he started there. They have one nap time and in the baby room where he is they will put them for other naps if needed.

Now for about the last month he takes a consistent 2.5 hour nap. He doesn't even always nap this good at home.

Just put him to bed earlier if you have to. It sucks when you don't get much time with them after work but things will get better.

My LO started daycare at 3 months and we went through plenty of stages like this. If she had a bad napping day, I would just put her to bed early. DD is 13.5 months now and is in the toddler room and nap time is 12:30-2:30 and she seems to thrive on the consistency. Is your LO crawling/walking? I noticed walking increased her sleep needs (historically a low sleep needs baby)?

LO is put in the back room of her sitter's house because she has to have total quiet and darkness to sleep. Sometimes, if she has been playing hard enough, she will sleep in the bouncy sleep in the living room. She took about two weeks to get back into her schedule at the sitter's house. We are cutting some new teeth now, so she didn't nap at all yesterday or even today at home.

We are having the same problem but he won't go to sleep at night earlier either.... So far he is functioning fairly well considering how much less sleep he is getting. He was napping 2-3 hour naps at home and is getting about 30 minute naps there. Now he isn't napping well on the weekends at home either.... grrr...

Yep! Was totally there. The first month was awful and he was a little zombie all the time. I think it's so new to them, and they are so busy learning and being observant that it is hard for them to sleep.

They do adjust eventually though. If that is any consolation. It's really hard when you're in the moment. Hang in there mama!

I know we talked about this a little, but the only way LO naps at daycare is in a stroller. One of their floaters takes her in the church sanctuary where it is quiet and dark and strolls her for as long as it takes. Sometimes it has taken up to an hour but usually it's been about 10 minutes. Then they bring her back to the classroom and she sleeps in the stroller for about 45 min. I'm not sure if they could try something like that with him? Maybe just getting out of the commotion of the room could help?

Oh yes, this was us w/ my first. Is there a specific nap routine they can incorporate? Unfortunately for us, nothing really got her to sleep until she went to the toddler room.

@Espion: So far we are really pleased with the daycare. I am hoping that once he transitions to the toddler room and there is a structured nap time that he will do better. It's nice to see that someone puts their child down that early. I'm always afraid it'll be too early and I will screw myself in the end. His summer bedtime (when I was home with him) was 7:30-8:00. Most nights it is 6:30-7:00 now.

I wish I had words of advice, but 7 months into daycare and he only sleeps a maximum of 30 minutes, when he can take 3 hour naps on the weekends. He's 15 months and there have been a couple times where we put him down as early as 4:30 pm and he sleeps all the way through to 7:30 am!! The poor kid needs sleep, but we're actually hoping to transition daycares and hope better structure will help. At our current daycare, there is hardly anything you could call "structure".

I could have written this post. DD is 12 months and is exactly the same. This was her first full week of daycare. One day she napped for only 10 minutes! Today, at home with me, she napped for almost 2 hours.

Needless to say, I'll be following this thread.

I think that is to be expected and over time he should adjust. Is there anything you do at home that can be done at daycare? DD uses white noise and even though she probably doesn't need it for naps, we sent a little portable white noise for her crib at daycare. I also send her lovey with her. I would talk with his teachers about what you do to help him sleep and see if there's anything they can do to help.

M is almost 11 months old and just finished his second week at daycare. He LOVES it. However, he went from taking 2 naps (one 45 minutes, one 1.5 hours) to MAYBE one nap (20-30 minutes) at daycare. He is dying by the time I pick him up after work and we end up doing bed early. By Friday he is like a little zombie because this is also making his night sleep rocky.

Over the weekend he will take one nap (2 hours). Tell me this will pass? He is in the infant room until 18 months.
