When I was pregnant with S, the midwife gave me this brochure about which fish in the area are ok to eat. We have a lot of lakes around here, but I didn't get anything like that from my OB this time around.

At my first OB checkup yesterday, I was presented with a folder of information, including an informational brochure produced by the State of Maryland, giving guidelines for healthy consumption of local fish.

I just found some of the brochure hilarious- I want to think that it probably isn't very common in other places to be told that you shouldn't eat crab "mustard" while pregnant? It just seems like a recommendation that would make somebody in a place where crabs aren't as much of a local 'thing' to go, "Whaa?" (The "mustard" is a liver-like organ in the crab with a really strong taste and apparently it has high levels of PCBs and mercury)

Fortunately this native Marylander thinks that eating the mustard at any time is just gross. :silly:

Did your health provider give you any food or activity restrictions during pregnancy that are very specific to your local area?
