@birdofafeather: Can you pick up a super cheap audio monitor? I want to say we paid like 15$ for ours, and it's definitely been helpful on trips! If not, I think leaving the door cracked would be sufficient to hear!

@birdofafeather: if you're in a hotel you might want to look into a white noise app! Nothing like a bunch of drunkards in the hallway at 3 am to wake up your baby...

also, in a pinch, you could also do a cell-to-cell call (don't need to use skype.) call one of your cellphones and leave one on speaker in the baby's room, then mute the one that's in the room with you. Just make sure the baby room one is on vibrate or the ringer is off! We do this all the time at my in laws.

@birdofafeather: Oh, well that makes sense. It's nice to have the separate space to hang out when LO is sleeping :)

@bushelandapeck: we have no problem sleeping in the same room as LO (we do it when we visit my family and it's no big deal) so we'll end up in the same room for sleeping. it's just that gap between her going to bed and us going to bed that we'll be in the other room. i wish a two-bedroom place was an option. if it were up to be, i would have rented a condo so we could make food and be all in the same place, but my in-laws are paying and they wanted to stay at a hotel!

@birdofafeather: I have a very inexpensive audio one, I use it for travel and it has paid for itself a few times over! And it has an integrated night light.

Sounds good to me. Also if you can't bring your monitor you could do the skype-2-skype monitor if you have 2 electronic devices on hand.

I would definitely bring a monitor. We have been lucky to have rented rooms or condos with two bedrooms. I know we wouldn't be able to sleep in the same room with LO anymore.

@sunny: @looch: we have a foscam, so we can't bring that along. :( we might be able to rent an audio only one. do you think that's necessary? when we use the foscam, we never use it for sound as we live in a super small place, so i was kinda thinking that it would be the same situation with hotel rooms as in we would hear her crying through the walls/slightly open door?

Do you have an audio monitor? I'd bring a simple one, that should suffice.

I'd also bring a nightlight, so you're not stumbling around later on.

I think that sounds great! I would just bring my video monitor though. Is that an option?

We've never had the option of an adjoining room so we just go to bed when baby does. :-) We end up getting a lot of sleep which is nice.

we're headed to kauai (yay!) in a couple of weeks with my in laws and DD (15 months). we just confirmed joined rooms, so that's a huge help in terms of her sleeping and us still being able to be awake/not trapped in the same room trying to be quiet.

we won't have access to a video monitor and i know we'll be able to hear her cry since we're right next door. i'm planning on deadbolting the front door on our room and then leaving the adjoining room door ajar where we will be hanging out with our in-laws until we want to go to sleep.

does this sound right? i'm so glad we were able to get adjoining rooms, or i would be freaking about sitting in the room with her every night until we wanted to go to sleep. am i missing something about this set up? what have you done when doing a hotel vacay? i am equal parts nervous about logistics and excited about finally going on a vacation!
