At around 2 months we went on a 3 hour car trip & I sat in the back with her while she was awake but she slept for most of the trip. At around 7 months we went on another 3 hour drive but we left in the evening so she slept the whole time. I haven't given her a bottle (or boob!) in the car yet but I have pumped in the backseat before on long trips a couple of times!

We're going to be moving halfway across the country this summer in a car with the baby (and our pet rabbit too!). I think it's going to be pretty crazy, so I like hearing everyone's experiences w/ long car rides and babies...

I once drove for 3 days with my godchild. But he was a todler then.

My SIL however JUST arrived to her new home today after leaving up here. She drove four days in the car just her and my 9 mo nephew.

We're planning on driving to the east coast this summer when LO will be 4-5 months old, I don't know what our plan is, but I doubt I'll sit in back, there is more room up front! lol!

Long is 8-9 hours. It's easier and cheaper than flying. Interesting...I hadn't thought about some of these things. Guess our 8 hour trip will turn into an 11 hour trip!!

Our longest car rides were 4ish hours. For the first 4-6 weeks I usually sat in back and DH drove. I never really thought twice about giving him a bottle in the car though. Usually we would plan it so that we'd feed him right before we left and he'd fall asleep in the car. I always had a bottle on hand just in case, and whoever wasn't driving would just recline the seat and reach back to feed DS a bottle.

Our longest was 8 hours. She was good but it messed up her sleep since she ended up sleeping a lot in the car. For the first trip the majority of time both of us were in the front seat and my husband just went back there once to give her food and I went back there for the last hour of the trip when she'd had enough. But when we had to turn around and do the same trip back 2 days later I stayed in the back most of the time.

We took LO on a few 3.5 hour trips when she was 2-3 months old. I sat in the back with her about half of the time (when she was fussy).

I always sit in the back with LO regardless of how long the car ride is. But yeah, I don't give LO a bottle (not that she would take one anyway!) while she's in her seat in case of choking.

With a baby, they might sleep a lot but I don't know for sure since we never went longer than 2-2.5 hours. For that time frame, I didn't have to sit in the back unless I wanted to give her a bottle. But if the baby is pretty small, I probably wouldn't feed in the car seat either like @artbee says. I think my LO only got her bottle in the car at 8+ months when she was able to hold it herself.

I sit in the back with lo to keep her entertained. But I don't feed her while in the car seat, I like to have her in my arms in case she chokes because if she's strapped in you can't quickly pick her up. It's nice to stop every couple of hours anyway, and you have to do it for diaper changes.

How long is long? I usually sit in the back with my son, we play, sing songs, sometimes he eats.

Longest car ride was about 3.5 hours at 4 months of age. We'll do it again in March for a ski vacation.

Have you taken a long car ride with a baby? Do you end up in the backseat with the baby so you can monitor them and even feed them a bottle while you're back there with him/her?
