I had long cycles (50-120 days, often induced by provera). For the first year of TTC I just tested early and often. Then I started charting. I had a 42 day cycle the month before I got pregnant, so if I hadn't been charting I wouldn't have even thought about testing at day 28 if I hadn't seen that I had a temp spike on day 16 and sure enough it was positive.

I was paranoid about getting pregnant with my iud since I didn't get periods most of the time. I stocked up on cheap tests and if I ever felt off, knew I was going to drink a lot or going to the dentist/doctor I would test. I think in your position that would be my plan too, maybe once every other week? More than that would drive me insane!

I've bought OPKs and pregnancy tests on both Amazon and eBay. My cycles were all out of whack post-BC though.

I started temping only because my cycles were all over the place and it was nice to (sort of) know what was going on with my cycle based on the temps. I am not TTC yet but it is nice to have more awareness and not obsess over possibly being pregnant every time my cycle was longer than I expected.

You can buy mass quantities on Amazon for cheap. If I were you, I would buy a ton and test often.

@tarabonno: did your cycles regulate on their own? did you have to take clomid to ovulate?

If you are a compulsive tester like I was in your situation, buy them on Amazon. At least then they are cheap!! I think it all depends on how zen you can be. When you're not really trying yet, you can probably just test at the end of every month or something. I'll warn you that once you start really trying, it can get maddening to not have a clue when things are happening in your cycle. Hopefully yours will settle down and even out and shorten at some point.

You could temp just to confirm when you've ovulated, but you may also not be ovulating yet. In my longest cycles post bc pills, I didn't ovulate.

Happy to answer any questions you might have. I had a hell of a time finding info about long cycles when we started TTC.

Huh. I'd probably just let it go until I felt weird. Imagine your surprise if you randomly tested in a month or two and turned out to be 12 weeks pregnant. How short would that pregnancy feel??

I bought a 50 pack on amazon and it was only like $15. Maybe test once/week just to be sure?

So my first cycle off BC was 123 days and had to have my period induced. I'm now on CD41 of my second cycle. We're not currently actively trying, but we are no longer using any protection. I don't think I'm ovulating, but I'm not temping (because we're not trying for a while I don't want to do all the temping every day yet... but could probably be convinced).

So right now i'm kinda in the position where if i'm pregnant I wouldn't even know about it because i would assume i'm just having a long cycle.

How often should i take pregnancy tests? I'm thinking of buying some wondfo ones on amazon).

Any advice? any tips on buying wondfos?
