We have the same hair! I only wash it every 3 or 4 days, so I am in a rotation - first day in a bun (the bun is damp so it dries pretty wavy), 2nd day down, 3rd day a low ponytail.

My hairstylist gave me a great tip that helps on the days I wear my hair down - put your hair up in a really high ponytail, wrap sections of it all in hot curlers, then put on your makeup. By the time you are finished, you can take them out and it looks great.

@MrsSRS: That is exactly how I learned to french braid - when I had waist-length hair, I would practice at night before bed. It really didn't take long to learn at all - you just have to figure out what works for your fingers. I can now do all kinds of braids to my hair and my LO's hair.

I had a hard time braiding my own hair when it was long, but found out it was much easier if I sat down and bent over and braided my hair.

I have very long hair too. My standards to look professional are a french braid tucked up underneath into a bun, a low ponytail with a side part, and a ballet bun. Start french braiding your hair to sleep in. It's just a practice thing. Do it everyday for a while and you will get good at it.

I have similar hair and basically just wear it half up each day. The front then feels like a ponytail, but it's still down in the back.

You have such pretty hair! I wouldn't discount a ponytail if you want to keep it long. I worked in law offices for a long time, and a neat, low ponytail with a deep side part was a common style, as were both high and low buns.

I also have thick, wavy hair, and I have it cut in a short bob by someone experienced at cutting curls. I spritz it with some water in the morning, rub in some product to define the curls/waves, and call it a day.

@mrskansas: Gosh, I love your hair! I have thick, curly hair and I've been keeping it short just because my kids like to pull on it and it gets really heavy and hot. You don't need to curl it all, but maybe try just curling the ends? Another thing I do to cheat it is that I curl the top layer and then add a few curls to the bottom/ends in the back and it looks pretty decent.

@mrskansas: There are a lot of tutorials out there. This person has much thinner hair, but you could start with a braid and then pinning it up into a bun. My only tip is to not be afraid to practice and try to learn to braid. Messy braids are in style right now, and knowing how to braid opens up a whole new world of hair styles especially if your hair is long. If you know someone who braids their hair you could ask them to teach you.

@T.H.O.U.: Yeah the length helps me a lot. When it's short, it's curlier and can be frizzy. Do you mind sharing which products you use? I'm always looking for new things to try!

@mrskansas: Gorgeous! I know for my thick wavy hair, having it long actually gives it some weight so that it pulls naturally a bit straighter. Having it short can make it feel more "poofy". However after this last baby I did cut it around my shoulders. I went to a really great stylist who thinned it out. I splurged on some good products for helping to let it air dry with waves. I still have to pull some back to keep it out of my face.

@brownepiano: If I could braid, that's probably what I would do every day. It's just so thick that it's almost impossible for me to do myself!
If you have any tips, I'd love to hear them

My hair has been that long before and it's now a little shorter. I can't wear it down without it getting frizzy or my baby ripping out handfuls. I usually braid it back into a messy bun. It's fast, easy, and looks nicer than a ponytail or regular messy bun.

I normally wear my hair back in a bun just for convenience so I don't have to style it every day. I got to bed with wet hair and on the mornings I wake up with a nice curl/wave, I rock it. It's just past my shoulders now and I'm letting it grow out. I usually get a compliment on the days I wear my hair down.

Your hair is gorgeous. I don't think it looks unkempt here. I would maybe do a few curls around your face, without necessarily curling everything. It might add just the extra touch of polish you are looking for.

You have gorgeous hair! I keep mine shoulder length, but it's curly and big-ish, so I usually always wear it down at work, but it's very easy to style.

I think cutting it would probably be the easiest, and if you hate it, it will grow back!

I have really long, thick and wavy hair. Most days, it can look a little out of control or unkempt.

I work in a pretty casual environment but I still want to look put together and as professional as possible. Anyone with long hair have any tricks or tips for work? Realistically I can't flat iron or curl my hair because it takes at least an hour of time which I don't have.
Maybe I should cut it shorter?

I also want to add that I'm relatively young (24) and sometimes I feel like having hair this long makes me look even younger, which doesn't help me out at work either.

Not the best picture but you get the idea!
