Definitely go with a backpack and a baby carrier on board. Take more diapers than you ever think you will need and at least 2 full changes of clothes for baby and at least 1 for you. If you FF, bring extra! At least at that age you don't have to worry about a bunch of solids/snacks.

That young you may not have too many jetlag issues...but we did US-Europe (definitely not the same ballgame) when DS was 7 months and it took him a week to adjust.

Wear cargo pants for the flights, so you can carry things like diapers, wipes, diaper cream, sanitizer in the pockets. Sometimes there is a line for the restroom and it is hard enough carrying a baby on a plane.

Backpacks are good as a carry on bag, for keeping your hands free. A carrier like the beco or ergo, for time spent in the terminal and getting through security

I think a carseat is helpful for sleeping but the cost of a ticket may be prohibitive. Try to get the bulkhead seat and request a bassinet, which most international flights should offer.

Hi, I'm sure there are a million posts about this but I thought I'd solicit some up-to-date advice!
My family is in Canada (Ottawa & Toronto) and I live in Australia. I'm heading home with my son on July 29th and he will be just about 4.5 months when we go, and just over 5 months when we come back. I'm so incredibly super lucky to have my bestie travelling with me from Sydney-Vancouver, so the lions share of the flight. I'm on my own with the baby from Vancouver-Ottawa, and then for the entire flight back to Sydney in August! Gulp!
Please hit me up with your tips - on packing, what to bring on the plane, jet lag, etc! Anything you've found helpful while travelling, I want to hear!
Thanks bees
