@aprk: when they are so little, the more sleep the better! When they are that little they mostly sleep. My pediatrician's handouts suggested limiting daytime naps to 3 hours but only if I noticed night time sleep being affected. I let LO sleep as much as she wanted (especially for her first and second nap of the day) when she was under 8 months old. After 8 months she was at 2 naps and I limited her second nap so she would be tired for bedtime. Now at 18 months she's at one nap and I always wake her by 4:00 so she will have at least 3 hours before bedtime.

Better naps equal better nights, however, I do need to keep at least 4 hours between the last nap wakeup and bedtime.

Better naps = better nights for us.
DD is 7 weeks and she took a 3hr nap yesterday afternoon and then slept in her crib from 9pm to 4am and then back to sleep from 5am to 7am.
If I could get her nap that good every day I would lol

Like other's said, I've always heard one good sleep leads to another good sleep. I don't think it makes a difference to my LO.

Morning update: Not so bad. He slept for 3.5 hours, ate, and then almost 5. Not his normal schedule, but I'll take it!

I didn't wake him up, and his second nap was about 2 hours and 15 minutes. He showed sleepy signs earlier than his "normal" bedtime tonight, and has been asleep for an hour+. Fingers crossed he continues this trend!!

Nope - that's great! Sleep begets sleep so the more well rested a baby is during the day, the better they will sleep at night! Let your LO sleep and fingers crossed you get a good night tonight.

The phrase about sleep begetting sleep is SO true, in my experience. I find it especially true in very young babies.

I never ever know what to do in situations like this. Today my guys went down late and I woke them up at 4:30 because I think this will screw them up tonight. But, mine are 15 months and 3 years old.

I guess I would let him sleep and see what happens, especially if this is the first time he has done it. Maybe he'll sleep extra well tonight because he wasn't over tired.

A has never been a great napper ... usually 20-45 minute cat naps randomly throughout the day. Today he took a 2-hour nap while I was at lunch (yay!) and then another 30 minutes in the car. We came home and he ate and played, and then went down for another nap. He's going on 2 hours again now.

This is unchartered territory for me. Am I screwed for sleep tonight? Should I wake him up if he goes much longer? He is 8 weeks tomorrow.
