I only wake my kids up if we need to be somewhere and they're still sleeping. I'm a "never wake a sleeping baby" mom.
I found that no day is exactly the same, so I keep my kids on a flexible schedule.

@hilsy85: my baby is only 12-weeks old, so he's getting 6 hours worth of naps (three 2-hr naps), but when he hits 7-months i'll be limiting naptime to 3.5-4 hours too!

My son routinely sleeps around 3 hours or longer for his nap, but it's his only nap and he gets up super early. I am more flexible with bedtime than I used to be, but it's still no more than 4 hours from the wake up time of the nap.

@Mrs. High Heels: same! I try not to let LO nap more than 3.5 hours total throughout the day, otherwise it could lead to more night wakings...

@WALLAROO: I wake him because I'm keeping him on a schedule and I don't want it to interfere with night sleep. I don't let my son sleep longer than 2 hours if he's having a normal, consistent nap day. If he didn't get a chance to nap for whatever reason though (like on Mother's Day), I did let his afternoon nap run up to 3.5 hours.

Thanks everyone! I think I will let them wake up on their own unless it gets closer to 4 hours. They probably just need their sleep.

like mamamoose, i was having supply issues at the start and didn't let him go more than 3 hours without a feeding. honestly if i had to do it again, i wouldn't have woken him up (i would have pumped at the 3 hour mark and fed him again when he woke) unless he started to go past 4 hours.

@photojane: Haha I was just thinking the same thing!! I'd do almost anything to get a 3 hour nap out of him!

I wouldn't wake him up unless it was his last nap of the day and would seriously impact bedtime.

When she was really tiny and we were still trying to establish milk supply I never let her go more than three hours between feedings during the day. Even if that meant I had to wake her up. Nowadays I can't imagine the bliss of a three hour nap but if she took one I would just assume she needed the sleep and I wouldn't wake her up.

@photojane: this doesn't happen very often. Their naps are usually 20-45 min long.

I read somewhere that you shouldn't let babies nap longer than 3 hours. Do you wake your LO if their naps are longer than 3+ hours? Does it depend on the time of day?
