@birdofafeather: lol! I didn't mean she was like super pale ;) Just that I think darker skinned kids can get away with more time in the sun before getting red, obviously. My son is NO where as dark as I am, and it has taken a lot of adjusting to, because i'm the type that can get away with spf..like 10. He can't; either can my husband :silly:

I'd go with long-sleeve for the protection if I was bothering with a rash guard.

I would do long sleeve for more protection.

@shopaholic: how do you like the swim zip? I was just looking at their website last night. Is that the one K was wearing in a recent IG photo? How is the sizing?

LO has long sleeved rash guards - they're pretty easy to get on and off, and I burn crazy easily, so I wanted her protected.

I wanted it mainly for her shoulders and back. She's outside all the time in the summer in short sleeves but her back and shoulders even with sunscreen were more sensitive. So we went with short sleeve.

@locavore_mama: C runs hot too, and we live in TX where it gets up to like 120! I bought a long sleeved one.... I figured the water will help keep him cool (I hope!).

I like to buy a little big, so it's easy to take on and off. I prefer long sleeves, but usually get whatever's on sale! DD has a short sleeve rash guard (like a t-shirt but in that stretchy swim material).

Long-sleeved rash guards are the way to go. Because she won't be using it to protect her belly from a rash while paddling out on her longboard (I'm guessing ;) ), I might buy one a tad big to make putting it on/taking it off easier. If the point is sun protection, it doesn't need to be skin-tight.

My favorite rash guards are the ones from one step ahead, because they are more like material, as opposed to that shiny, stretchy material, which my son doesn't care for.

We all burn super easily, so I voted long sleeve. That's what I buy for my LO, and I finally bought one for myself last year and it takes away a lot of my paranoia about getting sunburns.

@CupQuakeWalk: ha! she's actually one of the more olivey skin toned babies in the last year. put her next to my neighbor's kid and he looks translucent! BUT i don't want her to get burnt. so point taken! ;)

I prefer long sleeves so I don't have to put sunscreen on the arms!

I bought a solid L/S set from Swim Zip - they probably have a style to match!

Short sleeve rash guards irk me. Like, what's the point? Haha. I want as much coverage as possible and it's not like you're taking it off and putting it on all the time.... And it's not like they get hot, cause it's usually wet....

I've seen some zip-up long sleeved rash guards on Amazon. Getting them on wasn't hard for me (we used a short sleeve one last summer, also in SoCal-- we used it when we went to Indio), but getting them off when they're wet is tricky.

i have a super cute swim diaper that i'm gonna use for LO for the summer and want to get her a rash guard to go with it. currently, we slather her with sunscreen and she wears a one piece suit, but i'm feeling like it's not enough protection, so i was looking at long sleeve rash guards to help, but i wondered if i would hate having to get the long sleeves on and off her and if a short sleeve would suffice?

we live in socal if that effects your opinion.

here's a pic of the cutest little swim diaper!
