I had my twin boys at 27 weeks exactly. I've posted about them before here in the forums. My surviving son is now 17 months old and he's doing quite well. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Congratulations!

I too am expecting a preemie. My water broke 12 days ago and I've been on hospital bed rest since then. They hope that I'll make it to 35 weeks before going into labor and will induce me that day. I'm currently 33 weeks, 3 days. I'll be interested in what you find out!

Good luck to you!

I don't have any experience with babies born that early but I just wanted to say congrats! Sounds like he's in great hands. I hope you can find some good support through your hospital!

My hospital also had classes you could take relating to the care of a preemie. I took one class and found it very helpful. I'd also use the nurses and doctors as resources. We loved the nurses and docs who took care of our son.

@Mrs. Mini and I both work in NICUs so we can be a resource. Good job getting your little one to 27 weeks! It's going to be a long road, but you'll get there!

There should be a family to family group at your hospital. Definitely try to take advantage of the local support of people who have been there and done that!

You'll totally be down with the lingo and ready to be a NICU nurse in no time!

I have a preemie. My son was born at 34 weeks. He was released from the NICU after being there for a little over a week. It was a very stressful week and overwhelming. Have you been pumping? I pumped a lot and it really helped our son, he did not do well with the formula. I'm here for any support you need.

I don't have any personal experience, but 2 former co-workers had their babies at 28-29 weeks (I actually posted about one of them on here). I believe both their babies came home around their due date. Hope your baby boy thrives in the NICU and amazes all the doctors and nurses. Big hugs!!

I don't have any personal experience as a mom but I used to volunteer in a NICU so I've seen all the amazing things they can do for preemies these days. It sounds like your little guy is already doing awesome so that's great. He's in the best place he can be so just have faith that he is in great hands with the neonatologists. Also, my next door neighbor's daughter was born at 24 weeks and while she is a little delayed behind her peers she is three now and doing great hitting milestones over time.

i dont have any advice to add bc i never had a preemie but just wanted to offer you some reassurance. i was born at 26 weeks. i was in the NICU (hershey hospital) for 3 months before i was brought home. i have suffered no long term health problems from it at alll. :) congrats on your little boy and hang in there, i can only imagine how hard this is for you but rest assured there are plenty of success stories out there and your little guy will be one of them :)
I found this thread for you maybe you can contact one these bee's.

Hi everyone,
I don't know if anybody would even remember me, as I've been gone a long time. I've been busy with my toddler and being pregnant with our second one.
Anyway, after trying to stop preterm labor for a week, our son was born last Saturday at just 27 weeks. He's doing great and we're in one of the top NICUs in the country, so I'm no longer climbing the walls in worry over him, but I wanted to see if there were any moms of preemies or former preemies on here with any advice or stories. I haven't made it over to the hospital support group yet and the only comments I've gotten from RL friends are "Huh, I hate the third trimester, so a preemie doesn't sound too bad..." Seriously. /rolleyes

I haven't been on the blog for a while so if there's somebody there I should be reading please point me over there. :)
