We use the shrunks inflatable bed rails when traveling. They go right under the fitted sheet and deflate to nothing so super easy to pack.

IKEA will be everywhere if you are going to Europe, is that where you will be?

Try to find a expat group, they are usually really helpful and pass stuff along because a lot of people are on short term assignments.

@lamariniere: yeah good point about the mattress not being comfy. I guess I should just rip the band aid off and get her into a big bed. She just sleeps so well in the crib...7-7 with no wakeups, ever. She is very set in her ways...she likes her crib. She also hates sleeping in our bed. Toddlers...ugh.

Push the bed against the wall for one side. Get a pool noodle or blankets and pillows and roll them up underneath the sheets on the other side. It will take time to transition but I think even if you were home, you would need to transition her out of the crib sooner than later.

My 2 year old still sleeps in crib at home but refuses to sleep in the lotus travel crib when we travel now that he’s older. He just sleeps in between us so that he won’t fall out.

Both of my kids slept in a “big” bed at or before age 3. My younger LO is 3 now and has slept in a not low-to-the-ground twin for months now. She has not rolled out once. We do have her bed pushed against the wall so that does minimize her ability to roll out, but I don’t think it would really be a problem even if the bed weren’t against the wall. Your LO might surprise you and do very well with the transition, so that’s what I would go for.

Where will you be? There’s surely some kind of baby store where you could find maybe a guard rail that would attach to the bed? Or put the mattress on the floor? We had the Bjorn travel crib and it was great for short trips, but the mattress is pretty thin and I don’t think it would be ideal for weeks or months of nighttime use.

So long story short we are moving abroad for a short period of time overseas to be with my husband who has been traveling for work. LO1 is three; she sleeps happily in a crib at home. She’s 39” tall (so, fairly tall) and we have a baby Bjorn travel crib she has used in the past. We have an air B and B we will be staying in. It has a twin bed in her room and they provide a pack n play as well. My husband is on a quick weekend trip right now with her and he said she slept terribly last night in the Bjorn. Up all night.
I have a feeling we might have to make the transition to a real bed while abroad.
What would you do? How do I kidproof a room that isn’t ours or keep her from rolling out of the twin bed? I can’t amazon prime stuff there (no amazon!). I’m a type A planner and this is rattling me a bit since I can’t really “plan” and sleep is um...important (I also have a 3 month old). Jet lag will screw us anyway (7 hours). Is my best bet the mattress on the floor and hope for the best? Bring an ok to wake clock? Keep her in the Bjorn if she fits?
