Just to add to your confusion - we have a Summer Infant mid-range video monitor (model has been discontinued) that has a great range. I agree with you on the Motorola - we have one of those too, that cost more than the Summer Infant, and the range is terrible plus everything seems to interfere with it.

My parent's have quite a large house, and we usually hang out in the great room, which is as far from LO's room as you can get. Our Angel Care monitor has worked no problem. I've also used it sitting out on the back deck, and it's fine.

Hmm, we have a motorola video monitor and it works upstairs/downstairs (LO is upstairs) and about a half block radius from our house. I'm not sure what it's actually listed as working as! There are a few dead spots in the house but I can take the dogs outside partway down the street and the monitor still picks up fine.

I have an infant optics and it says "free digital wireless transmission covering distances of up to 800 feet in open areas, or 150ft in enclosed areas"

Her bedroom is in the back of the house on the 2nd story - it works when I am in the backyard, 3 levels down (Walk-out basement)

Does anyone have a recommendation on a monitor that can go a long distance? I'm not talking miles or anything, just farther than my Motorola.

I'm 100% fine with just audio. Think baby inside house (second floor) and you outside working in the yard.

I've tried googling this and everyone seems to have different thoughts. According to google, the range specified usually isn't accurate and is based on an open field. This may come as a shock, but my house has walls, etc.

Thanks!
