We did a nautical whale theme for his nursery so we are sticking to that for his bday after I mixed a hockey/Detroit Red Wings theme in case DS grew up to hate hockey. We got him a sweet little British style sailor outfit, we will be serving "Sam-wiches" because his name is Samuel, and then we will have a Korean doljabi and put him in his Korean hanbok. There will be cake and summery food. I said just make that the theme - like get one of those chalkboard stat boards made that lists his favorite things, make the menu a riff on his favorite foods (like if its pasta, then pasta salad, if its cheese, then a caprese salad, etc), have a candy bar that includes a bowl of puffs or yogurt melts as a joke, or set up a baby pool with his bath toys and cups to jump into after his cake smash/food throwing extravaganza. Things like that. So the "theme" was just birthday party. For subsequent parties we are going with what she happens to be in to at the time.
